The current inflation is worsening the global poverty and hunger problem

Eating loads of super foods is no doubt the BEST way to ensure that you age well. Super foods packed with antioxidants are essential to beautiful skin and to a fit body.
The recent inflation of food prices has really got me thinking for long stretches of time in front of certain fruits of vegetables because I could not believe how much more expensive it was compared to prior weeks.
It’s these times or situations that hit you in the face with such force that you cannot ignore that your food dollars just don’t stretch far enough and it makes you start thinking of people who have much less than you do.
Not long ago I was watching on BBC World a documentary on Zimbabwe and how eggs costs something like 16 trillion Zimbabwean dollars (about £16 or $30 USD) and the week prior to that documentary being secretly shot the same eggs were half the price (ie: £9).
I don’t know about you, but I would not be eating eggs if I had to pay $30 for them – no way … no how. But it’s easy for me to say that because I don’t live in Zimbabwe and I don’t have a starving family to feed.
That documentary had my jaw dropping — and I’ll be honest tears came to my eyes because the starving people could not afford the basic necessities.
Here you have people who are already desperately poor and they cannot afford even the basics and here you are complaining about price inflation. I can assure you that the BBC documentary made me feel that much more grateful for what I was actually able to afford and I really didn’t mind not being able to eat certain favourite fruits or veggies for a few weeks.
When you look at the situation of poor countries (mostly found on the African continent), you know these people don’t see food as an anti-aging or as a way of preventing diseases. And there are little chances that you’ll see too many Africans who have too many food issues (aka they cannot afford to be as picky as Westerners) nor will you see too many Africans complaining about having too much to eat (ie: this is in reference to the bulging waist line of many Western countries). Africa is a continent that is in desperate need of food to feed a population that is not able to find sufficient food to eat on a daily basis.
So what can you do to stop poverty and hunger?
I became a supporter of OneXOne, an international non-for-profit organization fronted by Matt Damon that helps poor families and children in Africa. I also support the local food bank, Second Harvest (which feeds the needy) and the Public Library (to help those who don’t have access to computers gain access to the World Wide Web and perhaps gain some knowledge to help them access better paying jobs).

I’m also part of a group of bloggers who will highlight the troubling fact that poverty is still a serious problem in our modern and rich world.
The objective is to mobilize as many readers as possible to become **more** aware for one day of this reality and lend their support via contributions of time and money to help those who are a little more unfortunate.
What can you do to help?
You can contact local organizations that help poorer neighbours and you can also contact a number of organizations that support international relief efforts.
Sometimes you are able to donate money and sometimes it’s time. In other cases it’s by donating clothing items you no longer need.
So many people have far more clothing than they need and there are so many items there sitting at the bottom of your wardrobe used. Maybe you’ll use October 15 as a clean-up day and create a donate pile that you will take to Salvation Army or any other organization that supports families in need.
You might also want to look for clothing boxes that are popping up more and more these days. Some of these clothing boxes will send much needed clothes you donate to Africa.
I’m quite fortunate because earlier this year, we have a company that came and installed a permanent donation box in the parking lot … this makes it so much easier to donate old clothing that someone actually really needs.
You can also visit the resources page on Blog Action Day and find other international organizations that support local and international families in need.

No matter how small the gesture … we can all make a small difference in the lives of people who have so little.
