Eat Smart Age Smart is buzzing!

I know that a number of my readers from Beauty Match have become regular readers of Eat Smart Age Smart and I couldn’t be happier.
Since there have been quite a number of new readers on Beauty Match lately, I wanted to remind everyone that we’ve got some includible content on Eat Smart Age Smart and I wanted to highlight some of the most read articles on the site.
I’m proud to announce that the number of readers on Eat Smart Age Smart has been doubling every month since the site launched in April 2009.
I also wanted to say how proud I am to have received the mention of “Top Health Blogger” by Well Sphere for the ‘Healthy Eating’ category in June 2009 (two months after launching the site)!

If you’re not sleeping well at night … it might be time to visit a sleep doctor!

***This is a really incredible interview***
A few months ago I met with sleep expert Dr. Colin Shapiro. Before even getting into all the amazing things I learned from my meeting with Dr. Shapiro, I think it’s really important to look at his amazing pedigree.
Dr. Colin Shapiro is a professor of Psychiatry and Ophthalmology, University of Toronto, director of Neuropsychiatry at the Toronto Western Hospital, director of the Sleep & Alertness Clinic & Sleep Research Laboratory at the Toronto Western Hospital and director of the Youthdale Child & Adolescent Sleep Clinic. He’s been involved in sleep research for over 25 years. He was trained in medicine in South Africa and earned a PhD in sleep physiology at the University of Edinburgh. Dr. Shapiro has written over 200 publications in the subject of sleep, including “Fighting Fatigue and Sleepiness”, Working the Shift” and “Who needs to sleep anyway”.
I’ll be honest, I had no clue that there was such a thing as a “sleep doctor” until meeting Dr. Shapiro. It was Eleni (our resident product reviewer) who suggested that it would be a great topic to tackle for women in their 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s who are dealing with so many changes in their lives that affect their sleeping pattern.

Why are wigs so important for women recovering from breast cancer?

Wigs are an important part of the recovery for many women who lose their hair because of cancer treatments. Women have such an emotional connection to their hair, and I cannot imagine how emotionally traumatizing it must be for cancer survivors who have to deal with the reality of their hair loss.
To understand the importance of wigs in the life of many post-recovery cancer patients, I met with Michael Suba, owner of Continental Hair Salons.
Michael’s family has been in the wig business since 1964 when his parents, a couple of hairdressers, decided to ride the wave of the 60s. Now, the business is operated and managed by Michael.

Sundari gift set in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month
I’ve reviewed many times in the past the line that was co-created by Celebrity Beauty Pick Christy Turlington. I now have one extra reason to feature this line! Sundari is releasing three new gift sets this October and has partnered with Cosmetic Executive Women’s Foundation to donate a portion of the proceeds from their gift sets: “Perserverance”, “Dedication” and “Commitment” to its Cancer and Careers Program.

Brands that support Breast Cancer Awareness Month with “pink products”: 12 products that will help with the battle
I desperately needed new tweezers so I just picked up a new pair of “Breast Cancer Ribbon” tweezer by Tweezerman. For every purchase of the commemorative tweezer, Tweezerman will donate $1 to Rethink Breast Cancer.
Tweezerman is not the only company supporting Breast Cancer by donating proceeds from the pink products.
If you are going to restock on any products during the month of October, this might be a great opportunity for you to buy “pink”! I’ve listed a number of companies who will be thinking pink in October. I found it was important to list them because a lot of people are not aware that their October purchase can make a huge difference and have a great impact on the lives of so many women battling with breast cancer.
Buying “pink products” in support of Breast Cancer:
Remember: October is Breast Cancer Awareness month!

You might have already started hearing the buzz around Breast Cancer Awareness Month and there might even have had a number of fundraising activities in your city.
That said, there could never be enough focus or attention on Breast Cancer Awareness Month because this disease robs too many women of their lives.
Each city in North America will have a host of fundraising events to help secure funds to save the lives of women.
There are so many ways to get involved by either lending a helping hand with your time or by donating money that will help further the cause.
When it comes to being a women and being faced with the reality of breast cancer the best prevention is to be proactive by getting the facts, getting an annual check-up, learn how to do self-examination of your breast (or ask your partner to help) and maintaining a healthy life style.
Breast Cancer Awareness month is a time to pay tribute to the many women who have passed away from the ravages of this disease, celebrate the women who have beat the cancer and who have successfully survived and to be reminded of how precious life is.

Yeast infections are no laughing matter
As a woman, you know how irritating yeast infection can be. It’s an unpleasant condition that most of us would happily do without. There are many creams that you can get from your local drugstore to cure yeast infections, but what are you supposed to do if you want to cure your yeast infection naturally?
I found the “Yeast Infection No More” course that teaches you how to permanently cure your yeast infection, eliminate candida and get back to a more balanced inner you. The course was created by Nutritionist, Health Consultant and Researcher, Linda Allen and it’s backed by over 25,000 hours of research!!!
Allen, has been researching and studying the subject of yeast infection for 7 years because she wanted to find a long lasting and holistic cure to a problem she’s been dealing with for years (in fact, she was suffering from very severe yeast infection).
