These days, the former model and ex Mrs. Salman Rushdie and current host of Bravo’s hit TV show “Top Chef” is everywhere! Not long ago, I was watching an episode of “The View” (yes, I know … but it was 12 am in the middle of the night and I was posting content to the site and it was either that or listening to CNN talk about the gloom and doom of the current economy and “Chelsea Lately” was featuring a re-run) and there was Padma featuring some of the delicious recipes from some of the young chefs of the “Top Chef” competition.

While working on the March contest, I found a file of photos I had taken from an event with Nexxus hair care. This event happened a few months ago, but the photos and hair style ideas are still quite relevant so I decide to still feature them on the site.

All these styles have been created by Tony Masciangelo, professional stylist for Nexxus.

I’ll take you through the different models and what Tony Masciangelo created.

1) Asian model: Tony Masciangelo applied a number of hair styling products from Nexxus and he set the model’s hair in rollers to give her definition and body. The shocking thing was that he actually added a hair piece in the back of the model’s hair to give her maximum fullness at the back. I tried taking a photo from the side, and unfortunately the photo is a bit fuzzy, but you can still see the volume from the side. Had I not been standing in the front row I would never have known that model had any extensions on. That proof that when extensions are well set … they look totally natural! If you look at the difference between photo #5 and #6 you’ll see that the model has longer and fuller hair. The extension was wrapped at the back of her head. It was one of those à la Jessica Simpson/Ken Paves HairDo^TM type hair extension clips.

2) Blonde up do model: I didn’t end up taking as many photos of the blonde up do à la Audrey Hepburn, and the front shot is not perfect, but it will give you an idea of what the hairstyle looks like. Actually, this looks quite close to the hair style Robert Vetica created for Marion Cotillard for the 2009 Oscar Awards.

3) Red-haired model: This might be the most glamorous look Tony Masciangelo created for that evening. The model had a really beautiful hair colour and it was quite striking with her green eyes and red-red lips. Tony set the model’s hair in rollers and really maintained the curl to give it that old-Hollywood à la Rita Hayworth.   He added a sparkle-studded hair piece to the right side of the model’s head to really finish the look.

4) Big bold haired model: This model has a natural wave to her hair, but by setting the hair in rollers Tony was able to better control the quality of the curl. I love this look it’s fresh and sassy. It’s also a great look for so many women who might be fighting with their naturally wavy hair and who are looking for a change.

5) Ultra chignon model: This is obviously a hair extension chignon that has been added. This is most likely not going to suit everyone and it won’t suit every occasion, but if you want to go glam and ultra chic … this is a fun look. I’d have to say that most of the other style might suit women of any age, this look might look at bit severe on older women. I personally would keep it to 20-something and 30-something women.

6) More shots of the Nexxus hair styles: These next photos were taken at the end of the presentation. You’ll be able to see the finish looks a bit better.

Did I see any results?

After washing my hair, I could tell immediately that it was much softer and my hair was very easy to untangle.

Would I replace my current hair treatment product? No – it would become part of the mix. A few weeks ago, P & G hosted an event at a swanky restaurant in the west-end of the city to introduce a few products. I got Eleni and Daphne to review the products, but I thought it might be fun to highlight some of the photos from ‘P & G’s champagne event’.

The evening of course included one of my favourite beverages – champagne! They were serving Veuve Clicquot and I much (MUCH) prefer Moet & Chandon, but I’m not one to turn my nose up at champagne.

I think the most important photos are the models’ hair. All of these models were prepped with Nice’n Easy Perfect 10 colour (and it was the first time they coloured their hair) and the stylists used the appropriate Pantene Expressions shampoo and conditioner. Eleni and Daphne reviewed the Clairol Perfect 10 hair colour because since I already have a chemical relaxed in my hair, permanent hair colour is a huge no-no for me. That said, according to the beauty reviewers, they think Clairol Perfect 10 by Nice’n Easy is the best hair colour on the face of the planet earth because it only takes 10 minutes.

Not long ago as we were all heading to a women’s show we were discussing why they liked the product so much and we were also highlighting the fact that busy moms who are time-starved must find this hair colour so practical to use.

It is such a treat to try out a new product that actually delivers exactly what it says it will. YES – REALLY!!! I had perfectly glossy hair with full grey coverage at home in under 15 minutes.

Testing Clairol Perfect 10 Nice’n Easy Hair Colour:

The contents of the box are comparable to most home hair colour kits, but that’s where any similarity ends. The kit includes gloves, one tube of high gloss colour, a bottle of activating cream, a tube of ColorSeal Intensive Conditioning Créme conditioner, a special comb applicator and instructions.

The application process was simple and straightforward:

1) Combine the colour with the activating cream in the point tip bottle, shake and then apply from root to tip, completely saturating the hair using the no-drip comb applicator on virgin hair or just roots on previously coloured hair.

2) Allow the colour to sit on the hair for a full 10 minutes (or up to 15 minutes for stubborn gray like I have), then wet the hair, lather and rinse.

3) Apply the ColorSeal Intensive Conditioning Créme, allowing it to absorb for 2 minutes. Rinse well and style your hair as usual. The ColorSeal Intensive Conditioning Créme is to be used once a week for six weeks.

The shine was lovely and the fragrance pleasant. My hair stylist Anthony has been seeing me only for haircuts recently because I really love the results I get from this product and don’t need salon colour anymore.

Did I see any results? My hair was perfectly shiny and smooth. Even now – going on two weeks and my hair still has that freshly-coloured look and feel. I was even asked by a couple of friends at work about what colour I use. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay for Medium Brown! The Perfect 10 shades are really rich and have an expensive-looking depth of colour that I have yet to experience with any other store bought brand.

Ever since my favorite hair colour product was discontinued two years ago, I have been wandering the drug store aisles in search of a worthy replacement.  No matter what I tried … home colouring kits or salon colourists … the search continued.

I happened to try Clairol Perfect 10 late in September and I was impressed with the results.  My friend Sue even accused me of finding a secret stash of our discontinued brand.  When asked to review Perfect 10 for Beauty Match, I couldn’t wait to see if brunette lightning could strike again … and it did, perfectly!

Testing Clairol Perfect 10 Medium Brown #5

I mixed the high gloss colour crème with the colour activating crème.  The mixture was applied to my unwashed hair starting at the roots and working through the ends.  I love that the kit has two applicators: one is the standard tip for roots and the other is a comb-like applicator (I prefer to use the comb applicator). The product felt very creamy and didn’t drip.  Clairol Perfect 10 also has a very nice scent that I didn’t find irritating at all.

After 10 minutes, I rinsed my hair until the water was clear and applied a quarter-sized amount of the ColorSeal Intensive Conditioning Crème through my hair.  I left this on for two minutes and then rinsed it out.

Did I see any results?

Rich brown tones, great shine, and total coverage of grey.  The ColourSeal Intensive Conditioning Crème really made my hair feel soft with lots of body and no processed feel.

Would I buy it? YES!!!

Would I replace my current hair colour? YES!!!

When it comes to my hair, I’m always on the lookout for more shine and body.  I have my favorite tried and true products, but I’m always ready to try something new.

One of the biggest challenges is keeping my hair from looking flat and dull before my roots demand a colour job … needless to say I was all over this assignment.

Testing Pantene Pro-V Brunette Expressions Daily Color Enhancing Shampoo:

My hair tends to be oily, so I used the shampoo daily. One lather and rinse was all that I needed.  The shampoo looks and feels like silky chocolate ribbons, it smells nice and the lather is thick.

Did I see any results? My hair felt and looked clean and shiny.

Would I buy it? Yes!

Would I replace my current shampoo? No, I would alternate with my current fave.

After shampooing, I applied small amount of conditioner and worked it throughout my hair from the ends and working upward as recommended on the instructions. I left it on for a couple of minutes and rinsed it out.  I felt like it took more time to feel that my hair was rinsed out than when I use my usual conditioner.  I tried using different amounts of conditioner during the testing period with the same results each time.

Did I see any results? My hair was soft and shiny but felt a little limp.

Would I buy it? No

Would I replace my current conditioner? No

Given the opportunity to check out Pro-V Brunette Expressions shampoo and conditioner, I jumped at the chance because I hoped it would be another collection of good, usable products and I was not disappointed.

My hair tends to be oily, so I shampooed with the Pro-V Brunette Expressions shampoo daily. It lathers up nicely so you only need one lather and rinses out very clean. Both the shampoo and conditioner do not deposit hair colour onto the hair shaft, they just improve the shine and appearance beautifully. Both are gentle enough for daily use.

Did I see any results? The claim is that it “helps restore a healthy-looking, luminous shine to brunette hair” and I got exactly that from both the shampoo and conditioner. The liquid crystals in the formula really perked up the depth of colour and brought out the shine. I liked this effect very much.

Would I buy it? Yes. I like to change my shampoo and conditioner every so often, so I would use this whenever my hair colour was looking dull and in need of some extra colour care.

Would I replace my current shampoo? I like to rotate my hair care products, so I would definitely put these products into the current rotation with some drugstore items as well as a couple of select salon brands.

The requirements for the contest were very simple: post your worst “BAD hair day story”.

I have to say that the 16 ladies who dared to air their bad hair day stories for the rest of the world to read were brave and I salute them.

A lot of the posts made me laugh and some I read in horror because I was able to place myself in your shoes and relive your bad-hair-day stories.

That said, a few stories really stood out and after narrowing it down to three, I realized that there were two very strong contenders and I was unable to make up my mind so I did what a beauty editor should do … I emailed Karmin and begged for a second flat iron!

The two readers whose stories really screamed bad day are: Robin and Toye (from North Carolina)!
