Prevage is a best seller in New York and London!

Everywhere I turn I see an ad for Prevage. It’s huge in the U.K. and in the U.S., but I wanted to find out if it was that popular at home.

Elizabeth Arden joined forces with the marker of Botox® to create Prevage. This very popular skin care line is said to combat common signs of aging with a new antioxidant called idebanone. The orange colour of the idebanone explains why the product is brownish in colour. It also explains the strong smell.

The more I spoke to retailers who were selling the product, the more I was able to understand that Prevage might not be for everyone. It seems that for some women, Prevage delivers the results they were looking for: a decrease in the appearance of wrinkles, improvement in firmness, better texture, reduction in age spots and brighter skin.

That said, a number of women have had skin reactions to the products. It seems that some sensitive skin types are too delicate to use the product and those with scent allergies* are not always able to use the product. You should consider a patch test before buying Prevage to ensure that it’s the right Beauty Match for your skin.

It may be true that you don’t need a prescription to buy Prevage’s retail formula, but with everything you apply on your skin, you should let your cosmetic dermatologist know if you see any changes that concern you.

If you are using Prevage during the day, you will still need to use a moisturizer and a SPF to hydrate and protect.

Prevage retails for $200 for the 50-ml bottle and is sold at Holt Renfrew, Hudson Bay, Sears, Sephora Canada, and Shoppers Drug Mart.

In America, Prevage is available in most department stores and at Sephora.

* Closing note: If you have allergies to scents, you might want to ask for a small sample before you invest the $200 and test it on your hands or forearm. Idebanone has an extremely strong smell that might not be suitable for everyone. I personally tried it, but could not test the product because the smell gave me an immediate headache when I applied it on my hand and then smelled my hand.
