I’m so happy with my new Gourmet Nutrition cookbook!

There are so many delicious recipes, but I decided to start with the most important meal of the day – breakfast!

Since I quite like protein smoothies and I usually drink two or three of them a week, I’m always eager to try new recipes.

Gourmet Nutrition has an ENTIRE chapter devoted to smoothies. Some of the combinations are divine … think of raspberry mocha shake, or orange chocolate shake, or Piña Colada shake or even the Blueberry Madness Smoothie!

All the recipes contain the nutritional information including calories, fat content (saturated, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, Omega-3, Omega-6), carbohydrates, fiber, sugars and protein. You even get variations to each recipe just in case you have allergies or if you are not able to locate certain ingredients.

Here are a few shots of the recipes I tried:

1) Raspberry Mocha Shake p. 64 (Dr. Berardi has included fish oil in this recipe for the omegas!)

2) Nutty Crunch Shake p. 70 (I’m happy to see that Dr. Berardi has included rolled oats in his shakes to thicken them)

3) Piña Colada Smoothie p. 74 (Pineapple and coconut milk in one smoothie … I’m in heaven. Dr. Berardi even included a power antioxidant from the East and I so didn’t expect it in a smoothie, but this makes for quite the super food drink!)

4) Tropical Smoothie p. 76 (I replaced the peach with papaya because I had some on hand. The source of protein was a first for me. I’ve been eating this form of protein with fruits in the past, but I had never incorporated it in a smoothie before)
