Some people start seeing the permanent signs of aging as young as in their mid-twenties. Depending on your genetic pool, you may start seeing laugh lines, crow’s feet around your eyes or a somewhat wrinkled forehead as early as your mid-twenties. It’s true that a few lines on the sides of your mouth or etching the corners of your eyes are inevitable signs of aging, but unlike your parent’s generation, you actually have options.
Obviously, no wrinkle cream or medical rejuvenation treatment can fully stop the effects of time, but you have options to help lessen the appearance of wrinkles and other minor skin conditions, such as age spots or acne scars. In the U.S., Canada and the U.K., women are lining up at the doors of their cosmetic doctors and plastic surgeons to take advantage of the rejuvenating effects of laser resurfacing. The reality is that women on both side of the Atlantic are looking to take greater control over the way they age with the help of many effective non-cosmetic rejuvenation treatments.
More and more 35 + men and women are turning to laser resurfacing as a way of smoothing out fines lines and uneven skin.
So why are so many Brits and North Americans choosing laser resurfacing?
* Laser resurfacing rejuvenates your skin one layer at a time - during the procedure, a laser is used to remove areas of damaged or wrinkled skin, layer by layer.
* The procedure is most commonly used to diminish the appearance of fine lines, especially laugh lines around the mouth and crow’s feet around the eyes.
* Laser resurfacing is an effective treatment in generating new skin growth in a similar manner as chemical peels, radiofrequency ablations or microdermabrasions.
* Laser resurfacing is particularly effective at repairing photo-aging. Laser resurfacing allows younger-looking skin to grow and replace sun-damaged skin.
* Laser resurfacing is also quite effective in treating facial scars or areas of uneven pigmentation.
* Liver-spot (aka brown spots) sufferers will also find laser resurfacing to be an effective treatment.
Laser resurfacing is not a miracle treatment. It’s very effective at treating minor facial flaws such as fine lines around your eyes, mouth or cheeks; and improves the complexion marred by yellowish/greyish skin tones. That said, you should keep in mind that like every other anti-aging treatment it has its limitations. Laser resurfacing cannot remove deep wrinkles, nor will it eliminate excessive or sagging skin. The effects of laser resurfacing are not permanent because as you age, your skin will continue to show new signs of aging…that’s why this is a journey! The only way to get the results you are looking to achieve is to keep maintaining the health of your skin as your skin changes with age.
