Kettlebells: A workout straight out of Mother Russia

They might be straight out of Russian fish markets, but kettlebells took Los Angeles by storm last year. Celebrities like Ethan Hawke, Claire Dane and Gerard Butler (star of “300” and “P.S. I Love You”) have used this Russian body scuttling cutting edge training to redefine their bodies.

Kettlebells are becoming very popular among women because they offer a full body strengthening and conditioning workout. Kettlebells are excellent at targeting inner and outer tights, triceps and back muscles.


You can purchase kettlebells online and you’ll find them in sizes ranging from nine to 88 lbs!

So did I try the kettlebells or the kettlebell workouts?

There are no kettlebells at my gym, but I did do a few searches online and was able to see a number of videos with exercises. I used a simple dumb bell and reproduced the same movements I had seen online and let me tell you the workout was effective. The thing about kettlebells is the fact that you can used them to strengthen your muscles PLUS workout your cardio at the same time. I simply used two different dumbbells at 10 lbs and 12 lbs and I got my heart pumping and my legs burning.

Here’s a quick celebrity beauty secret: mom-to-be Jennifer Lopez (aka JLO and Mrs. Marc Anthony) is a devotee to the kettlebells workout. Jennifer Lopez has one of the most desirable figures in Hollywood and unlike so many starlets, she prefers to adopt a healthier and more athletic body figure.
