Is Herbal Essences All That Shine Clear Shine Booster worth the buy?

2-star3Review submitted by our product reviewer Eleni

What I got was a box similar to a home hair colouring kit containing gloves, two bottles, a tube of conditioner and instructions.

The entire process was similar to colouring your hair: simply combine the liquid formula with the shine formula in the point tip bottle, shake well and then apply from root to tip (without rubbing the scalp) completely saturating the hair. Allow the formula to sit on the hair for a full 10 minutes, then wet the hair, lather up the mixture (don’t add shampoo) and rinse. After that, apply the Shine Amplifying Conditioner allowing it to absorb for two minutes. Rinse well and style your hair as usual. The Amplifying Conditioner is to be used once a week for six weeks.

The manufacturer claims that the effects of All That Shine should last up to six weeks.

How did it work for me?

The treatment did smell nice. It was easier to use than hair colour because there were no roots, drips or skin stains to watch out for since it’s clear. After using it, my hair was shiny and felt smoother and thicker. It was not super-shiny or glossier than if I had used a hair serum. On someone younger or with unprocessed hair, it could be a different experience altogether.

I was happy with the shine for the first few days, but then my hair went back to its old look with only a little shine on thin, limp locks. That was a disappointment because I followed the instructions completely. I should add that my hair is in good condition even though I colour it regularly to cover all the grey.

The real downside of this product for me is that I had to wait three weeks after colouring my hair to use All That Shine Clear Shine Booster (Clairol’s recommendation) so that only gives me a maximum of two weeks to enjoy any shine enhancements before the gray hair and roots make their presence known. This product is probably better for those who have much less gray than me. It’s too small a window of opportunity to use this All That Shine Clear Shine Booster for most Boomers, I think.

Would I buy it? No thanks.

Would I replace my shine treatment? No, it’s much easier and more effective to use a good shine serum.
