Is it worth it?:
Written by our beauty editor: I received my Idol Tan in 4 days after ordering online. When I opened the container I was surprised that it smelled “citrusy” but not too overpowering. I’m a big fan of the tone I get from Mystic Tans but I’m not a fan of the way it makes me smell. So Idol Tan definitely beat my beloved Mystic on that front. After applying it, I grabbed a dark wash cloth and rubbed it all over my skin – making sure to get my elbow, ankles and in-between my ankles and toes.
The results after my first application was not that noticeable. But on the bright side, at least I wasn’t orange! I followed the same routine Day 2 with limited changes to my skin tone. By Day 3 I was starting to show a tan but on Day 4 I got the results I wanted. It was a really nice even glow. I asked my friend how it looked and she said it looked really natural and asked me where I bought it! Score!
I’m definitely NOT a pro when it comes to applying self-tanner (like I said, I use to prefer Mystic Tanning) but even so, I wasn’t streaky at all. I’m really happy with the Idol Tan purchase and do not plan on returning it. So what will happen to Mystic tanning? Taking a break from it might not be a bad thing. It can get really expensive, it’s somewhat time consuming (it takes approximately 27-35 minutes out of my day), it smells funny, and has left minor stains on some articles of clothing.
So my verdict: I give Idol Tan a 9 out of 10. I would have liked it if 1.) there was more product in the bottle and 2.) I could have bought it in a store 3.) it absorbed into skin a little quicker.
