How sleeping only 4-5 hours per night almost did me in

*** Embrace the NEW year ***
November and December were particularly long and stressful months for me. I was busy with Beauty Match and with a few other projects I manage. I knew I was pushing myself a bit too much, but I kept telling myself: I’ll be okay.
So basically, I was really working overtime to introduce great new beauty products for the holiday season (you’ll notice how many we covered and researched in December). I also started writing for my Beauty Redefined Yahoo! Lifestyle blog and I also got a few additional offers to expand the Beauty Match content to a wider audience.
All this additional good fortune meant that I was juggling extra invitations, product launch events, long hours researching, interviewing experts, reading, co-ordinating and trying to meet deadlines. My nights kept getting shorter and shorter and all of a sudden, my weekends completely disappeared.
All these new expansions and opportunities were great, but because they all happened at the same time and because I didn’t take time to prepare myself, I basically cut back on my rest time.
I remember looking at myself in the mirror thinking in horror that I looked tired and run down … you know when you get to that stage where there isn’t any product in the world that can help.
Physically, my energy level really suffered. Things got so bad that within 2-3 hours after the beginning of my work day, I would get incredibly tired and would be dreaming of going back to bed. I had no energy to prepare or eat proper meals, or go to the gym.
As I approached the stated of complete and total exhaustion, I stopped and decided I need to take a step back before my health suffered more.
Sleep is no doubt one of the best anti-aging secrets because it has such a major impact on so many different levels of your life, as you allow your cells to properly regenerate and you also bring down your level of stress. It’s been reported that we now sleep two to two- and-a-half hours less than we did a few decades ago and our beauty and our health are paying a high price.
Writing about this and living it are two different things. I’ve made a firm commitment to myself for this New Year, I will make sure that no matter how many new, great and exciting opportunities come my way, I will not sacrifice my sleep because I will not sacrifice my health.
