For the love of God, do we really need a $75 eyeliner?
Follow me on Twitter
No seriously, who needs a $75 USD eyeliner in this economy?
I sincerely thought that the first time I heard about Serge Lutens’ “Fard” Kohl eyeliner that the price was $7.50, but surely not $75. I thought there might have been a typo, but no … the eyeliner actually cost a staggering $75!!!
Serge Lutens is well known for his luxury fragrances and he’s now venturing out in the luxury makeup market at a time where most women are recycling what they already have in their makeup case.
I’m all for a little luxury here and there, but a $75 eyeliner is too expensive … even for my beauty editor blood!
Now to be fair to Serge Lutens, I’ve not tried their product and I have no doubt that it must look good, but it’s an eyeliner AND it’s $75.
For $75, that eyeliner better not fade or smudge during the day and it needs to last for 10 years!
I’ve not decided if I’ll try to get my hands on this eyeliner or not because I feel a bit insulted that a manufacturer would put out a product at this price in the middle of a recession.
What do you think? Leave a comment to let me know if you would pay $75 for an eyeliner!
If you are interested, you can buy the Serge Lutens $75 eyeliner at Barneys of New York or on their web site.

NO way in H-E- double hockey sticks would I spend $75 on eyeliner…recession or no recession. I will sometimes spend more money on things because of quality of ingredients, workmanship etc but I cannot see how it is possible for $75 eyeliner to be much different than $7 eyeliner! YIKES!

Robin,
You are right … even out of a recession, $75 for an eyeliner is simply insanity.
I cannot justify paying that kind of money … even as a beauty editor.
I’m with you when you say no way in H-E– would I ever fork out that kind of cash. I personally feel a bit insulted that a cosmetic company would do such a thing!

Yes…yes, I agree completely! This is just my opinion but to my way of thinking most of the hight end make up is priced high enough to be termed obscene ! I can’t justify paying this kind of price even if I had all the money in the world.
As long as there are starving people and children I would feel so guilty spending in this fashion.

I would NEVER pay that much for an eyeliner. Why would anyone when they’re are great eyeliners out there that cost less than ten dollars? It’s insanity. Take that money and donate it to a charity!

hi, just to let you all know after reading your coments about oh my how expensive it its, i agreee with you but there is that thing called you get what you pay for. this falls into that catagory. im a makeup artist and i have had my serge eyliner for 3 years now , and still there is abvout an eight of it left. it goes a long ways with little product, so before you judge it go try it. oh and it doesnt come off either. so it stays on your eyes only where you put it. id say thats a great and rare product . just my opinion from someone who does makekup. good day all….
