Interviews with Beauty Experts
« Previous ArticlesAre soy products dangerous to your health?

Post presented by guest expert Dr. Jonny Bowden
Earlier this year, I was so proud of myself when I hit a sale on soy milk and loaded up enough of them to open my own little soy coffee shop.
Two days after that purchase, I had read an article that actually warned against the consumption of too much soy. I’ve got to tell you that because of certain medical pre-disposition, I quickly grabbed my sales receipt and went back to the grocery store and explained my situation and they were kind enough to give me my money back since I had not opened the soy milks that I had purchased.
Our nutritional expert, Dr. Jonny Bowden has a very interesting take on soy products that I think is worth the read:
Another Look at Soy by Jonny Bowden
The latest issue of the journal Nutrition and Cancer reports on a study by Korean researchers showing a protective effect of soy on the risk of developing breast cancer.
If you’ve read my book, “The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth” you know that I’ve not been a huge fan of soy. And if you’ve read any of the writings of Sally Fallon and Mary Enig (”The Ploy of Soy”) or the book, “The Whole Soy Story: The dark side of America’s favorite health food” by Kalia Daniels, PhD, CCN, you probably know why.

My Interview with THE Hermes Birkin Bag Expert
Those French women have it so easy with all those fabulous designer brands. If you’ve ever been to France you’ll notice that French women don’t dress the same way most North Americans dress. In France it’s about quality instead of quantity and when a French woman finds an item she loves and that fits properly … she won’t hesitate to buy it in every colour!
Another thing you’ll notice about French women is their love of exquisite accessories. The French bring attention to details like no other country. The artisans in France are still regarded as men and women who possess an exceptional talent.
I was quite sadden to find out that many artisans’ careers (in Europe at large) had fizzled and had been exported to China where savoir faire (know-how) was replaced by mass production. From conversations with insiders I found out that many brands were partially assembled in China and then returned to Europe to be finished and to be “stamped” made in Europe. One company that is still using a long traditional of artisans is Hermes.
Hermes is one of France’s most prestigious, luxurious and expensive brands and it’s also one of the brands that’s the most coveted by Hollywood celebrities and the rich and famous on the planet.
Le carré de soie (silk scarf) is the entry point at Hermes retailing usually at about $295-$400 (depending which country you buy it in). That said, THE item that cannot seem to remain on the shelves for very long it the Birkin handbag.

10 makeup trends for women over 35: Norman Sands discussed NARS fall 2008 makeup trends
*** A quick warning to my readers, this is one of the most in depth interviews I’ve done about makeup tips with a beauty expert … I hope you’ll soak in every word!***
Norman, was so incredibly generous with his tips that I really had to cut this post into two parts and I really want to make sure you read all the information he provides because most of us will never afford the luxury of having an expert makeup artist on speed-dial.
You can read part one of my interview with Norman Sands here: My interview with Norman Sands Makeup Stylist and Trainer for NARS Cosmetics
I’ve interviewed a number of makeup artists in the past, but Norman is surely one of the most passionate and also one of the most detailed experts I’ve had the pleasure to sit down with. I knew volumes when it comes to makeup, but this discussion with Norman allowed me to learn so much more.
I also hope you’ll enjoy this interview with Norman Sands makeup stylist and trainer for NARS Cosmetics:
1) Beauty Match: What are the fall 2008 makeup trends at NARS?
Norman Sands:
- Kohl Rimmed Eyes
- Clean and Simple
- Bold Lips
- Luminous Skin
- Sunset Hues
My interview with Norman Sands makeup stylist and trainer for NARS Cosmetics
I really have to say that I’m quite excited about the new makeup colours for fall 2008. I think these new fall colours will be very easy for most women to play with.
Like every beauty editor, I have my favourite colours for the fall and I also have my favourite brands. I have to say that since “discovering” NARS earlier this year, I cannot get enough of their colours.
I made a bad assumption when walking by the NARS counter in the past in assuming that the bold colours were suited for 10- and 20-something girls. In reality the colours are true colours … meaning that what you see is what you get. This means that you don’t need to pack on your makeup in the hopes of getting the colour that you originally thought you bought.
You know how you buy certain makeup and get home and try it on to disappointing results because the colour was quite lighter than you expected and you had to pack on many layers of the colours to achieve the desired look? Well, this is NOT a problem you’ll have with NARS.
For a very long time, it was all about Bobbi Brown for me, but from one collection to another I was getting increasingly bored by the repetition of different-shades-of-neutral. Don’t get me wrong, there are still incredible seasonal shades that Bobbi Brown creates, but as a whole, I find the colours quite demure.

Why are wigs so important for women recovering from breast cancer?

Wigs are an important part of the recovery for many women who lose their hair because of cancer treatments. Women have such an emotional connection to their hair, and I cannot imagine how emotionally traumatizing it must be for cancer survivors who have to deal with the reality of their hair loss.
To understand the importance of wigs in the life of many post-recovery cancer patients, I met with Michael Suba, owner of Continental Hair Salons.
Michael’s family has been in the wig business since 1964 when his parents, a couple of hairdressers, decided to ride the wave of the 60s. Now, the business is operated and managed by Michael.

Summer hair care with Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment – part 2
There was so much to cover in part one of my interview with Miguel Salvati, expert stylist for Ojon® Hair Care, it was impossible to include it all in one part so we had to continue talking about hair care in this second interview.
In this second interview we’ll still continue to focus on the incredible restorative properties of Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment.
Just in case you’ve not yet heard of Ojon® Restorative Hair Treatment, it’s a unique, highly concentrated hair rejuvenator and scalp nutrient made with 100% pure Ojon® oil. The product contains no chemicals or fillers. Ojon® will repair and seal the cuticle of your hair because the treatment traps the nutrient oil within each strand of hair without weighing it down.

Summer hair care with Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment – part 1
Anyone living on the East coast has been begging for summer to arrive. Between an extremely long and grey winter and a month of June that saw more rain than Vancouver (British Columbia) or London (U.K.), I don’t know anyone who’s not making up for the lack of sun by spending as much time outside as possible.
I think it’s safe to say that everyone is fully aware of the need to protect their skin against excessive sun exposure, but how many people actually also take care of their hair during the summer by treating it to strengthen it and protect from the harmful effects of the sun.
My year round go-to product for hair treatment is Ojon® Restorative Hair Treatment! If you’ve been reading my site, you know how much I absolutely L-O-V-E all things Ojon.

HelioCare SPF pill is another option against the damages of the sun
If you love spending time outdoors or if your work requires you to spend a lot of time outside, you might be looking for as much sun protection as you can get.
Can an oral sun protection pill help protect your skin against harmful UV rays?
This is exactly the question I asked Dr. Paul Zickler. Dr. Zickler is the Canadian distributor for HelioCare Pills.
During my interview with Dr. Zickler, we’ll find out a lot more about these sun protective capsules.
I’ll ask Dr. Zickler the following:

Imedeen Time Perfection with Pat Browne (part 2)
Imedeen Time Perfection has been sold in Europe and Asia since 1991.
The anti-aging tablets have been clinically and scientifically shown to increase your skin’s density, moisture and protein synthesis while visibly decreasing fine lines and wrinkles (naturally).
After about 3 months, your skin looks softer, smoother and younger.
Since Imedeen Time Perfection is quite popular among many models, I wanted Pat Browne to talk further about this interesting (and unsolicited) model connection and why so many women have made Imedeen their #1 anti-aging secret.

Imedeen Time Perfection with Pat Browne (part 1)
After interviewing Pat Browne, vice-president marketing for Nordic Selfcare Institute®, about another product we started talking about Imedeen Time Perfection.
While Imedeen Time Renewal is a product designed for post menopausal women, Imedeen Time Perfection is designed for women in their 30s, 40s, and early 50s.
You’ll find this interview with Pat to be quite informative because it really explains why a product like Imedeen Time Perfection works.
During this interview with Pat we’ll talk about:
Why is daily skincare and moisturizing not enough to protect our skin as we age?
