FDA Announces Labeling changes to Better Inform Consumers on Sunscreens

This week the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a new set of labeling requirements and standards that sunscreen manufacturers must comply with.

According to said Janet Woodcock, M.D., director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, “FDA has evaluated the data and developed testing and labeling requirements for sunscreen products, so that manufacturers can modernize their product information and consumers can be well-informed on which products offer the greatest benefit. These changes to sunscreen labels are an important part of helping consumers have the information they need so they can choose the right sun protection for themselves and their families.”

Although these changes will definitely help the consumer in the long run, the labeling changes do not really go into effect for about a year or so. Therefore My Beauty Match Insider decided to take a look and review some of the most popular sunscreens on the market to give you a better education on protecting your skin from harmful sun rays.

Since it is summer and hopefully you will be spending quality time at the beach or on the water, we want to make sure you are protected from the harmful rays of the sun

Quick Tips for Application:

• Use a at least an SPF 15 or greater for ideal protection
• Apply your sunscreen about 15 minutes before going in the sun to give it time to absorb
• Re-apply your sunscreen every 30-45 minutes and anytime after you get out of the water
• You can get burned easier when your in or on the water so make sure to apply before going in
• Try to wear a hat for additional coverage
