The New York Times reported in December 2008 that for the first time in many decades, weddings had been affected by the recent downturn in the economy and brides were no longer willing to get into deep debt just to show off for one day in their lives in front of friends and family.
As a result of the recent meltdown in the stock market, mortgage fiasco and current credit crunch, a lot of brides are being far more careful about where they spend their money.
Women are cutting out expensive extras , outlandish seafood platters, DJs (they are opting to use their Apple iPod for their wedding music), some brides-to-be are even cutting out the traditional wedding cake (most set menus come with a dessert and many brides are stopping at that) and some are going for a wedding venue that’s more affordable and low key.
Many (MANY) brides are cutting out the professional photographer and videographer and they are getting either friends who have a good eye for photography or photography students to come in a take a few snapshots of their big day.
