Lancôme Gold Fascination collection

lancome-gold-fascination-collectionFeature by Editorial Assistant Colleen

Canadians, it’s time to gear up! With the Olympics coming up in February 2010 in Whistler British Columbia, everybody wants to reach for gold.

This definitely includes looking right for when that shiny moment comes. Lancôme’s limited collection might be exactly what you need.

It’s been 75 years since Lancôme created a collector series and this one is sure to dazzle and sparkle, or at least get you noticed during the games.

Even if you can’t get a gold medal yourself at the 2010 Olympic games, you can definitely get your hands on a Gold Fascination collector’s item. This collection was designed by artist Raphael Mazzucco, also a former professional soccer player. He was inspired by the female athletes set to compete in the upcoming Olympics and of course, the colour gold. And who better to help Raphael complete his gold collection than his wife Lisa-Marie Mazzucco, a make-up artist and a gold medal winner in figure skating during the 1980 Commonwealth Games.

MAC launches new Colour Craft Collection!

Feature by our Editorial Assistant Colleen

Summer’s almost over but that doesn’t mean the summer colours have to fade away with the warmer temperatures.

MAC Cosmetics doesn’t think that this time of the year is too late for flirty colours and that’s why they created this post-summer MAC Colour Craft collection. The line was inspired by (you guessed it) colours and a whole heck of them at that.

This entire MAC Colour Craft collection is all about mineral make-up, which I personally love because it’s so light. It goes without saying that the new MAC Colour Craft collection also includes a lot of new lip colours too!

Here are a bunch of my favourites from the MAC Colour Craft collection:

1) Colour Craft lipstick:

You’ll find six shades of lipstick in this collection: ‘Madly Creative’, ‘Ever Embellish’, ‘Made with Love’, ‘Colour Crafted’, ‘Trimming Talk’ and ‘Most Popular’.

I’d have to say that my favourite is ‘Madly Creative’. I’m more of a light coloured lipstick kind of gal and the pink neutral shade would suit me best. I’d rather go with a dramatic eye and something easy-going on the mouth. A close second would probably be ‘Made with Love’ because I like that it almost has an orange tint to it, although it’s actually a bright coral pink. These bright lip colours will cost you $14 USD/ $16.40 CAD.

Introducing MAC in High Def and MAC Nail Trend

Feature by our Editorial Assistant Colleen

Move over OPI, there’s a new collection of nail polish to contend with!

MAC Cosmetics is getting on board with the increasing amount of nail polish that I seem to see everyone getting into. I know I’m definitely a huge fan of nail polish and since I love MAC Cosmetic products, I’m quite excited by this announcement.

My colours of choice these days have been black or dark blue or dark violet.

MAC has been working with Jin Soon Choi, nail polish stylist in the business for over 20 years, to create the Fall 2009 MAC Cosmetics Nail Polish Collection. This collection focused on colours that were highly pigmented, in your face strong colours that look great on anyone’s nails. The polish is supposed to be long-lasting with a great shiny cream finish to it.

“My husband is an architect, and I am constantly drawing inspiration and colour ideas from his creations. I also have tons of exposure to fashion trends through my work at the fashion shows and on magazine shoots. I wanted to create colours that were not only incredibly fashion-forward and edgy with an editorial feel to them but also were totally wearable for the everyday woman.” - Jin Soon Choi

>>> There are 14 different colours to choose from the new line of MAC nail polishes:

Cool Reserve, For Fun, Dance All Night, Rich Dark Delicious, Dry Martini, Beyond Jealous, Underlacquer and Overlacquer.

Fall 2009 beauty and makeup trends

This fall you’ll notice the colour are more intense for fall 2009 makeup trends. I’ve noticed that many of the cosmetic lines are showing darker eyes and red lips. In some cases, we’ve seen the dramatic lips and the dramatic eyes paired together and in other cases models have been sporting dramatic eyes with nude lips and nude cheeks.

As usual, I’ve created a trend sheet so that you can have all the major make-up brands and the make-up trends in one easy and convenient spot!

I think for women in their 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s, you’re going to have to play it by ear and I’d recommend you consults a makeup artist because dark lips and dark eyes might not look flattering. You might have to bring down the intensity on the eyes and play it off a medium dark lip.

I think a classic look that is always a winner for women in their 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s is the simple black eye liner, dark mascara and red lips. There are soooooooo many shades of red lipstick to chose from AND you can also opt for a sheer red lips stick that will give you the stain without the intensity.

Prescriptives launches U-Pick

Prescriptives_U-Pick

Feature by our Editorial Assistant Colleen

U-Pick is a new collection by Prescriptives that is quite inventive and that will be a huge money-saver.

You know how sometimes you buy a whole palette of eye shadows but you only really want one of them? Wouldn’t it be awesome if you could just pick and choose those colours that you want and forget about the rest? Prescriptives gives you that opportunity with their new line. It’s exactly what the name means: “you pick” the colours you ACTUALLY want to wear.

A few summer 2009 make-up collections that will turn heads!

A few summer 2009 make-up collections that will turn heads!

I will only take notice of a summer make-up collection if I think it’s worth it. I’ll be honest, I’ve never been one of those women who runs out to buy every collection because I already own (like most women) way too much make-up.

This might shock you since I’m a beauty editor, but I don’t believe in buying everything and I don’t believe that everything is suited to your taste, lifestyle or budget.

Many cosmetic companies will put out their main spring lines and then will add a few items as part of their summer collection.

MAC Cosmetics launches the Rose Romance collection April 23

Feature by our Editorial Assistant Colleen

When I think of spring one of the first images that pops into my head are cherry blossoms. I instantly feel warm all over thinking about the little pedals floating around me while I walk down the street near my old university.

Well I think MAC was thinking along the same lines because their latest collection, Rose Romance, embraces the flowers of spring and summer with shades to match. They have focused on roses in this collection because let’s face it, no other flower compares to symbolize classic romance.

This collection is complete with a number of elements from lipsticks to eye shadows to fragrances, all of which should be suitable to compliment and add to your summer wardrobe. There are a few pieces that caught my interest immediately:

Spring 2009 Make-up Collections Trends

I found that spring 2009 make-up trends are all over the map. You’ll see a lot of 80s, but you still see the classic red mouth and nude overall faces.

I’ll feature all the major cosmetic lines and I’ll let you know what’s in fashion.

Chances are you have a lot of the elements that are in fashion this season. If you cannot afford to buy new cosmetics, you can simply use these trends to pick and choose what would be beauty-season-ready! It might simply be a question of adding one new piece to your make-up for spring to complete the look without putting too much strain on your budget.
