This fall you’ll notice the colour are more intense for fall 2009 makeup trends. I’ve noticed that many of the cosmetic lines are showing darker eyes and red lips. In some cases, we’ve seen the dramatic lips and the dramatic eyes paired together and in other cases models have been sporting dramatic eyes with nude lips and nude cheeks.

As usual, I’ve created a trend sheet so that you can have all the major make-up brands and the make-up trends in one easy and convenient spot!

I think for women in their 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s, you’re going to have to play it by ear and I’d recommend you consults a makeup artist because dark lips and dark eyes might not look flattering. You might have to bring down the intensity on the eyes and play it off a medium dark lip.

I think a classic look that is always a winner for women in their 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s is the simple black eye liner, dark mascara and red lips. There are soooooooo many shades of red lipstick to chose from AND you can also opt for a sheer red lips stick that will give you the stain without the intensity.

1) Cover Girl Fall 2009 makeup trends: Pat McGrath has done it again! I’d say the most influential trend from Pat would have to be the dark dramatic eyes. It’s all very sexy! You know that with Cover Girl, you’ll be able to achieve the look without breaking the bank!

2) NARS Cosmetics fall 2009 makeup collection: Lolita Collection:

I can tell you that when I saw the Mekong Eyeshadow, I gasped. This is such a rich chocolate brown that will honestly look divine this fall. It’s a rich espresso that will be great with purple shades! Obviously, there is much more goodness from NARS in this collection. I also loved the Silk Road duo eyeshadow and the Brumes Duo eyeshadow. The Tokaido Express nail polish in an opulent blackened amethyst is divine! Simply put, I love the new fall 2009 collection from NARS!

3) Lancôme launches a new collection in collaboration with Aaron de Mey for the fall 2009 makeup collection

I adored my spring 2009 collection from Aaron de Mey and I can assure you that I’m not one bit disappointed by the fall collection. Fall is all about indigo and gold at Lancôme. In fact, they’ve translated that all the way to the nail polishes – they have one gold nail polish and an indigo blue nail polish! Lancome and Aaron de Mey picked Canadian model Daria Werbowy as the face of the new collection. This collection will surely suit women in their 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s because you can wear a much less dramatic and intense look and still look incredible in Lancôme’s and Aaron de Mey’s “Declaring Indigo” collection!

Alas, I no longer have time to watch the daily dramas and tribulations of my soap opera stars, but there is always time to gaze at the beautiful face of Shemar Moore

We all have our list of male celebrity favourites Shemar Moore tops that list for me alongside Brad Pitt (why? The man is perfect in every sense of the word), Pierce Brosnan (why? His blues, his accent and he’s charming beyond belief), Djimon Hounsou (why? His smile is arresting, his voice is like honey and that body is to die for) and Adam Clayton (why? The combination of his baby-blue eyes and that full silver mane is oh-so-sweet … let me add that the accent doesn’t hurt, neither does his love for art).

There is something soft yet strong about Shemar and that’s what I think so many women are enthralled with this hot former-model-turned-actor.

Shemar Moore (39, born April 20, 1970) has been linked with my fave Hollywood female celebrity over 40: Halle Berry! Had the two taken their relationship to the next level … THAT would have been a baby I would have loved to see … because that kid would have been too beautiful for words!

Sometimes, I choose celebrities to make the list of Celebrity Beauty Match Picks over 35 because of certain accomplishments or because of the way they view aging. That said, sometimes Celebrity Beauty Match Picks make it on the list simply because they are hot-hot-hot!

Shemar Moore does have a solid pedigree as an actor and he’s even won an Emmy Award for his role on The Young and the Restless, but Shemar makes this list because he’s incredibly handsome and he makes 39 look fine!

In January 2008, I was as shocked as everyone else when it came out that Patrick had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and that he was undergoing chemotherapy and other cancer related treatments to ensure that he beats that illness. I remember seeing photos of him looking so frail and fragile and nothing like the rebel Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing.

Swayze was successful in beating the cancer and he’s back on the small screen looking fiercer than ever before.

The trailers for “The Beast” were really intriguing to me and I’ve been watching the A & E drama series where he plays good cop or bad cop (that’s still not clear) Charles Baker.

If you’ve not had a chance to watch “The Beast” and if you like these types of police drama, you’ll really like this drama … you’ll also like Patrick sidekick … Australian super-sizzling-hot-former-Calvin-Klein-model Travis Fimmel (God, I need to get myself to Australia – I HIGHLY recommend doing a Google search to see his photos as an underwear model)!

Another thing to admire about Patrick Swayze other than his comeback from a serious illness and the fact that his career is better than ever is the fact that he’s been married to the same woman (Lisa Niemi) since 1975!!! Even in the “real world” you won’t find too many couples who’ve been together that long and that are still happy. In Hollywood, that would sure make the Swayzes a really small minority.

It’s recently been reported that Patrick just signed a book deal to write his like story … it will no doubt be fascinating and inspiring!

What is it with these 70s and 80s stars who are over 60, but look at least twenty years younger?

I’ll admit that learning that Grace Jones is almost 61 (she was born on May 19, 1948) was even more shocking than finding out that Olivia Newton John was also turning 61 this year.

There aren’t too many ex-models that can add singer and actress to their bio (other than Carla Bruni who can also add First Lady of France).

Grace can even add “Bond Girl” to her resume.

It’s true that “A View to A Kill” might not have been the best Bond movie, but she can still claim her spot in Bond history!

Grace Jones has always been so edgy and such a risk taker way back when taking risks was not as trendy as it is today.

I’ve always admired how perfect Grace Jones skin was. Her skin was perfect (and it still is), smooth and dark. He features are so striking, it’s no wonder she has a successful modeling career in New York and in Paris in the 1960s and 1970s.

I think one of things I admire the most about Grace is the fact that she’s created her own career path and when it comes to her singing career, she’s never tried to be trendy, she’s only produced music that was exactly like her personality – different and edgy.

Grace released an album last year and it sold only in the U.S., but thanks to my reviewer Daphne, I was lucky enough to get one. On June 22, 2007, Grace was performing live at Tivoli Gardens in London to a large crowd of fans. She was 59 at the time and she was still rocking an audience and she was looking fierce in the process.

Wow! I couldn’t believe it for a number of reasons. A few years ago Olivia Newton John fought and won her battle against breast cancer in the 1990s and we’ve seen her many times since then and she’s always in my opinion looked beautiful and ageless. It’s only the other day while surfing through the pages of my favourite British online newspaper (Daily Mail) that I took note of how many candles Olivia had recently put on her birthday cake! Daily Mail was doing a feature on Olivia because she had returned to her birth place of Cambridge (U.K.)

I guess, I shouldn’t be too surprised that Olivia defies time since when she was casted to play the 17-year old lead Sandy Olsen in Grease, she was actually almost twice that age … she was in fact 30!

There no two ways about it, Olivia Newton John is my Celebrity Beauty Mach Pick because she makes being over sixty look really darn good!

Christy Turlington is now 40 (born January 2, 1969)! The 1980s supermodel looks as flawless today as she did when I first saw her on the cover of my favourite fashion magazines as a teenager.

I’ve featured Christy as a Beauty Match Celebrity Pick a few times because I think she’s aging so well. I also am quite partial to the fact that she’s part Latina (as I never hesitate to highlight other compatriots and her mother was from El Salvador), but I’m really partial to the fact that she re-entered the modelling business in her late 30s and today in her 40s she’s the face of Roberto Coin jewellery, Chanel, Escada and Maybelline Cosmetics.  The mother of two (she has one boy and one girl with actor Ed Burns) is busier now than she ever was and she’s still the picture of perfection.

I was flipping through a magazine (I wish I could remember the name, but I read so many magazines each week … it can get a bit blurry) that featured a number of designers featuring some of their favourite things. Vera Wang was part of the list. It took me a while to register on her age because I was so focused on the things she liked and didn’t like. When I saw that she was 59, I gasped in disbelief because Very Wang doesn’t look like she even in her 50s to be turning 60 in 2009!

I always like to read about the biography of women who turned their lives around and achieved success later in life because it’s incredibly inspiring and it shows that anything is possible at ANY AGE!

I’ve only known Vera Wang as a bridal designer and more recently as a clothing designer with her new affordable (and quite recession-proof) line Simply Vera available at Kohl’s in US.

What I didn’t know was that Vera Wang (born June 27, 1949) made the transition to become a fashion designer at 41!!!

Here’s a blurb from Wikipedia that made me say” bravo Vera … BRAVO!:

“Wang was a senior fashion editor for Vogue for sixteen years. In 1985, she left Vogue after being turned down for the editor-in-chief position currently filled by Anna Wintour and joined Ralph Lauren as a design director for two years. In 1990, she opened her own design salon in the Carlyle Hotel in New York which featured her trademark bridal gowns.”

This kind of statement wants me to stand at the top of a building with my fist in the air shouting:

“Ladies, don’t let turning 40 (or 35 or 45 or 60) stop you from reaching any of your goals because it’s never too late. Also, since we are living well into our 80s and 90s, imagine that if you do pursue your passion right now at this stage of your life, you’ll have many decades in front of you to enjoy that successful transition!”

Vera Wang has designed wedding dresses for many top A-listers in Hollywood and very wealthy socialites around the world so it’s always a treat for me to learn from any style and fashion tips she might throw my way.

Here are a few style tips from Vera Wang:

It seems that Vera Wang and I share many common likes when it comes to fashion. She likes things like:

*Fur (it might not be politically correct to wear fur, but I like them for fashion and practical reasons because I live in a part of the world where the temperature will hit minus 30 degrees Celsius in the middle of winter)

* Leggings (I personally don’t have the body shape to wear them)

* Cashmere sweaters (it’s been reported that Vera Wang owns about 1,000 of them … I have much (MUCH) less, but I’m growing my collection each year)

* Diamond bracelets for day and nighttime wear (Vera, I like the way you think)

Vera Wang also believes that women over 35 should “pay attention to your bags and shoes” … and I couldn’t agree more! You can take a dress or a suit that you bought a few seasons ago and really glam it up with current shoes and a killer handbag.

Vera Wang is my Celebrity Beauty Match Pick because she’s shown that you can start a whole new career in your 40s and have great success at it all the while aging with great style and ease!

I haven’t got a clue as to why Elle Macpherson popped into my head a few days ago, but for some strange reason there she was occupying my thoughts. Could it be coincidence that I saw her on the red carpet event while watching one of those entertainment shows or was it simply a reminder that I need to write a post celebrating and glorious Elle looks at 44 (born 29 March 1964)!

If you were a teenager in the 80s, then you remember Elle Macpherson (born Eleanor Nancy Gow) as the leggy gal from down under who adorned the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues in the USA six times (the last time in 2006)! I also remember Elle very well from the many Vogue and Bazaar features because she has an unforgettable face and an unforgettable body.

I also remember Elle from the Victoria Secret fashion shows and catalogues … I mean it’s hard to forget a woman who is 6’0 tall and who is all legs!

Elle had a very successful career as a model and she dabbled in acting (not quite as successful as her modelling career). Elle could have easily become a has-been or a model from the 80s who does regular appearances on the catwalk and with selected designers without having much more going for her (think Naomi Campbell), but Elle has managed to turn her infamous nickname “The Body” into a business by launching her own line of lingerie, intimate wear and perfume (fittingly called “The Body”).

Elle doesn’t make the list because of some witty comment she made about aging well or because of humanitarian work she’s done or even because she turned her life around in her 40s.

Elle Macpherson makes the Celebrity Beauty Match Pick list simply because she’s aging beautifully and at 44 she has a body that would make most 20-something men quite happy to pull an Ashton (aka referring to Ashton Kushner’s relationship and marriage to Demi Moore)!

I must thank my good friend Natasha for keeping me on top of this one, although the message got caught in my spam box.

I toyed with the idea of not featuring this since the whole world must have heard by now, but I L-O-V-E Halle and I think (from the outside looking in) she’s got the perfect life so I could not resist … I just HAD to feature this incredibly gorgeous 40-something.

Esquire magazine has never made a huge impression on me in the past, but this honour they presented to Halle makes me look at this men’s publication in a whole new light.

I salute Esquire magazine for naming Halle Berry ‘THE sexiest woman alive’!

I’m terribly sorry for being a few days late on this monumental news, but the month of September has turned out to be one of the busiest and most hectic months on record.

I’m not complaining, because it’s all positive stuff, but it also means that I’ve not been able to post this last week as I had planned to do … as they say better late than never.

If you’ve not yet heard, Procter & Gamble has signed daytime TV host and Emmy-award winner Ellen DeGeneres to become the new face of CoverGirl makeup (her campaigns will be seen as of January 2009).

All week, Ellen’s guests have congratulating her on this major accomplishment. I personally LOVED when Benjamin Bratt (star one of my new favourite series called “The Cleaner”) said to Ellen: “You know what? You’ve got CoverGirl eyes” … I equally liked the way Ellen blushed!

I’d say, say that 2008 is Ellen’s year: she turned 50, she got married to the love of her life and now she’s the face of CoverGirl!

I personally congratulate P & G for daring to make a woman in her 50s the new face of their cosmetic brand.

I’ve always liked Ellen because truth be told, she makes me laugh and when days are crazy and I feel like the weight of my day is as heavy as an African elephant, I know that a few minutes of Ellen will lighten things up and often make me smile.

Ellen is surely not your ordinary cover model … she’s got nothing remotely similar to past models or other actresses who are becoming more readily the face of major cosmetic companies, but the one thing Ellen has is a legion of female fans who will be too happy to take her cue and run out and try CoverGirl’s latest collections (which are quite fantastic … stay tuned for some incredible looks from CoverGirl in the next few weeks!).

If P & G was trying to find a face to get other women to take note … what a coup by choosing Ellen!

I personally think that at 50, Ellen looks incredible and it’s obvious from her slim figure that she takes care of her body. She’s a natural beauty and she’s always been true to herself and has never really tried to be anything other than Ellen … it’s the kind of confidence that you’ve got to admire in a girl.

I quite like the explanation offered by Esi Eggleston Bracey, vice-president and general manager, Global Cosmetics, Procter & Gamble Beauty on why they chose Ellen to be their new face:

There is no doubt that Stephanie takes great care of her body and she must certainly adhere to a fitness regime. I’ll even grant you the fact that she must have a high flying trainer, but that does not take away from the fact that at 40 she looks drop-dead gorgeous!

Stephanie Seymour is my Celebrity Beauty Match Pick because it’s one thing to do a comeback as a model in your late 30s or 40s or even 50s, but it’s a completely other thing to do a comeback as a lingerie model in your 40s after having four kids! I salute Stephanie for having the guts to bare it all at 40!

Padma is one of those women who simply stops traffic because she’s tall, exotic looking, beautiful, well mannered and incredibly stylish and chic. No wonder this former model walked the catwalk for some of the top designers: Alberta Ferretti, Emanuel Ungaro and Ralph Lauren. She’s also done ad campaigns for Versus and Roberto Cavalli; and she’s appeared on numerous magazine covers.

In a world where imperfection is seen as evil, Padma proudly displays her scar left behind by a tragic accident at the age of 14. She has a seven-inch scar on her right arm that is very to conceal or hide.

Given her God-given good looks, it’s no surprise that Lakshmi was named number 66 on “The Top Most Desirable Women of 2008″ list for AskMen.com.

More recently, Padma has been playing off of her culinary talents by publishing two cookbooks and by hosting a number of shows on Food Network.

Now, this is not Cindy’s first Playboy cover. She also graced the magazine a few years ago at 41 in 2007 (Playboy’s Sexy 100) and in December 2006 just after turning!

I have to say that I was slightly puzzled by this triple win in her 40s because I had no idea Playboy was actually interested in women past the age of 28!

Cindy’s claim to fame was the Internet. She was one of the early adapters of the Internet as a medium to feature what Mother Nature and her plastic surgeon gave her. In fact, in 2000 she was made the Guinness Book of World Records as a result of being the “most downloaded” person in 1999 (70,000 times in 24 hours)!

I’m not one to buy the Playboy magazine or to care about the latest playmate of the month, but when Playboy decides to feature a sexy woman after the age of 40 three times on the cover of their magazine, I take note and I salute Playboy for saying to the world that women in their 40s are red-hot sexy (if they take care of themselves).
