The Lemonade Diet is currently the HOTTEST Hollywood diet and there is a free trial offer right now for is so you can try it and see what types of results you can achieve from it. That said, there are a number of other favourite Hollywood diets listed below!!! Kym Johnson, Champion Dancer, TV & Broadway celebrity uses Lemonade Diet to keep her killer body.

If you are in a rush, you can find out more about this celebrity diet here: Lemonade Diet

Hollywood LOVES fast diets! In the same train of thought, I’d say that Hollywood loves fast fat loss, fast weight loss diets and fast exercise!

Pretty much anything type of method that would help a Hollywood star lose weight quickly and be in red-carpet form trumps the traditional, more conservative way of losing weight.

If you’ve landed on this post, it’s because you are interested in knowing which diets female Hollywood stars are using to keep their size ZERO figures!

So why to people search for fast diets?

The reality is that even if most people know they should be eating more fruits, vegetables, grains and whole foods, most people are too lazy to bother.

There is a reason why a book like “Eat This Not That” has become a runaway success – people want to keep their junk food and fast food and still continue to keep their slim figures.

Alas, unless you are disciplined and you don’t over eat, you will find yourself with weight issues and you too will be looking for fast weight loss diets.

Even with the best intentions to lose the weight the right way, a lot of people get caught up in everyday life and then their diets because and afterthought or stress consumes their lives to a point where food is the only possible refuge.

For those people (and maybe you might be one of them), fast diets become a way for them to reach their weight loss goals in a short period of time with a minimum amount of sacrifice.

If you are curious to find out which fast diets are on the top of Hollywood celebs, the following should be quite interesting for you!

Here are a few of Hollywood’s fast diets (originally we had found 32 of them, but sometimes the popular sell out so the list might fluctuate a bit, but we’ll be tracking the most popular celebrity diets ):

>>> Oh, a lot of these offers are free trial offers, so you are able to try out a few of them to figure out with of these fast diets works best for you!

1) Lemonade Diet: If you watched the episode of The View not long ago where the ladies had 50 cent (aka Curtis Jackson) as a guest talking about how he managed to lose 60 lbs for a recent movie role, then you already know he used the Lemonade Diet to seriously trim down.

Beyonce had used the Master Cleanse a few years to trim down for a movie as well. If you are looking to lose weight and use the same techniques Hollywood Celebrities use, you may want to take a look at the Lemonade Diet!

Blueberries can be quite expensive when you buy them at the store. Let’s not forget that since last year, First Lady Michelle Obama has been encouraging people in America and around the world to plant their own garden to eat more fruits and vegetables at a more affordable price.

>>> Blueberries are good for you!

4. Aid in reducing Belly Fat

7. Blueberries keep away constipation

8. Blueberries can also cure serious problems like Alzheimer’s disease

9. The high fiber content, those brilliant anti oxidants and the ability to dissolve the ‘bad cholesterol’ make the Blue Berry an ideal dietary supplement to cure many heart diseases.

***Over 232,000 people have found the motivation to lose weight! Read below how they did it!***

Athletes have been doing it from the beginning of time.

In fact, I was watching last night a show that featured a young French professional race car driver who was a shinning start for Mercedes Benz. I’m quite the fan of a sexy Benz and I cannot imagine how exciting it must be to have as a job the duty to drive one of the best automobiles on the planet at ridiculously high speeds.

Obviously the moral here has nothing to do with the maker of the race car but rather about one particular thing the 26 year-old professional driver said.

He explained that before each race he sits in a quiet room and goes over and over in his mind all the curves of a road and how he’s going to handle each turn. He was explaining that he will have performed the race in his mind many times over before ever stepping behind the wheel.

There is a reason why athletic coaches get their clients to look at old filmed competition events in order for each performing move to be ingrained in their head.

Visualizing victory/success if truly the only way to go from where you are at right now to where you want to be.

Professional athletes do it, successful business people do it, musicians do it and may I speak from experience cooks and chefs do it. Heck if you don’t believe me, just take a look at some of the creation created by pastry chefs. Do you think some of those elaborate cakes and desserts could be possible without them having a strong and clear picture of the finished product in their head? I don’t think so!

One of the reasons why having a photo of a recipe is so important to me is because as I’m preparing my dish I refer in my mind back to that photo I saw. Once I have that image in my head, I don’t need to go back to the original photo anymore, I’m simply following the steps that will get me to the desired finish product.

So, if visualization is so powerful and it’s worked so well for so many high performers, why is it that people who are trying to lose weight aren’t using visualization a lot more???

You can click here to find out how to use visualization to see yourself 20, 30 and even 50 lbs thinner

>>> See yourself at your ideal weight RIGHT NOW!!!

Okay, here’s the deal: you’ve got 20, 30 or maybe 50 lbs to lose. You’ve tried many times before, but it’s just not worked very well because you most likely lost your focus or you became discouraged.

You just kept seeing yourself in the mirror at a weight that makes you unhappy and you haven’t got a clue how you’ll turn things around in your favour.

So what about having a photo of you with the weight off?

Do you think that seeing yourself 20, 30 and even 50 lbs thinner would be a huge boost in your weight lose journey?

I think you’d be blown away by the results you could achieve because every time you lose one pound you get closer to the image you have on your computer screensaver or to that photo stuck on your fridge!

>>> How can I get a photo of myself 20, 30 and even 50 lbs thinner?

That’s the beauty of technology!

Pretty soon the media will bombard everyone with stories of “weight loss resolution”, “your best weight ever”, “diets from this company and diets from that company”, “this new diet of the century” or “the latest Hollywood diet”.

You’ll see that all the morning and primetime talk shows will invite weight loss coaches and other weight loss experts to talk about tricks, tips and techniques to losing weight and keeping it off FOREVER.

Do you honestly think that it’s information you’ve not heard time and time again?

Nah, you most likely have heard of all the million ways to lose weight, but you still are stuck at a weight that makes you unhappy.

I was channel surfing (which as you know is one of my favourite ways of watching TV) and I landed on Access Hollywood.

The reason I stopped was because they had invited a personal trainer to explain why most Hollywood celebrities, such as Tara Reid, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Lindsay Lohan, Keira Knightley, Teri Hatcher, the Olsen twins, Nicole Richie … and the list goes on, are creating unrealistic weight loss goals for most women (regardless of their age).

The Access Hollywood team and the personal trainer (sorry … I didn’t catch her name) basically showed a list of super-skinny actresses and digitally added (you’ll need to sit down for this one) 50 lbs to their frame and showed the before-and-after pictures. The mind-blowing thing is that in most cases the after picture didn’t look shockingly different at all.

Access Hollywood was trying to make the point that with an addition of 50 lbs, most female Hollywood super-skinny actresses didn’t look remotely fat with the extra pounds … on the contrary … the extra weight made them look normal, healthy and quite sexy.

The only Hollywood actress who didn’t look too good with the extra weight on was Teri Hatcher because they added 70 lbs to her physique and it actually started to look like an unhealthy weight.

Here’s the fun part! You can do the same, but in reverse!

You can actually play with one of your photos to see what you would look like 20, 30, 50 lbs thinner.

>>> In a few steps you’ll get a photo of yourself looking much slimmer!

Honestly, this will be a fun, motivating and empowering for you!

The software you’ll use to upload your photo and determine how much thinner you want to look is as easy as child’s play to you.

Don’t worry, you won’t need to be a tech engineer to figure it out.

>>> Here’s how it works:

You upload a photo of yourself, specify how much weight you’d like to lose, and the software sends you back an image of yourself at your target weight.

You basically get to see yourself thinner, and that will provide the motivation needed to sustain a weight-loss goal.

With your new thinner-self photo, you can print out results, save it on your screen, pin it on your wall, post it on the fridge or keep it in your wallet!

The software provides a tangible, visual tool to strengthen your motivation and resolve!!

Not only is this a super-easy software to use, but it’s ONLY $9.95 USD to start seeing yourself 20, 30, 50 lbs thinner!

It’s incredible to me how many people get fat each year just by drinking an insane amount of sugar.

The sad reality is that few people take time to really consider the food choices they make.

I just purchased a new book that really shows people how to better understand the foods they buy and how storing certain foods at such a close range can create the type of temptation that is just too hard to resist. Of course, if you constantly give into temptations, then you end up gaining a lot of unnecessary weight.

Here’s an exurb from the book when it comes to the insane amount of sugar most Americans consume:

“ The average American now consumes a whopping 42 pounds of high-fructose corn syrup each year, according to U. S. Department of Agriculture data. That’s an extra 75,281 calories per year. And if you look at that in terms of pounds (approx. 3500 calories = 1 pound), you are looking at gaining an extra 22 pounds a year. The bulk of that comes via soda, energy drinks, and juice drinks.”

Wow!

The book tackles much more than sugar (or should we call it sugar addiction), the book also talks about the self-defeating purpose of calorie counting.

I know this is one of those flip-flop topics because NOT one nutrition expert or healthy eating expert or even nutritionist can agree on.

One expert will scream: “counting calories helps you lose weight”, while another expert will flat out bark at the notion of calorie counting.

My take on calorie counting is pretty much in line with this new book I just purchased because both authors feel calorie counting is a losing game.

>>> You’ll find more details on this essential guide that will help show you which foods to eat to burn fat here: Foods that burn fat

>>> My philosophy about calorie counting is simple

* It’s restrictive

* How in the world are you able to know EXACTLY how many calories are in each food?

* Do you really want to spend the rest of your life counting every single calorie you put in your mouth?

* How can anyone be really happy by approaching food with this “punishment-like” attitude?

* Finally, you won’t see French women and Italian women counting calories. Those women eat pretty much what they want, but yet, they still remain quite thin and slim as they age.

>>> You’ll find more details on this essential guide that will help show you which foods to eat to burn fat here: Foods that burn fat

>>> The Food Pyramid is a joke?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen any nutrition expert come out and call the Food Pyramid a misleading joke before.

Here are the words they use to describe this guide that has obviously kept too many Americans way too fat for way too long:

“The food pyramid has misled almost as many individuals down the depressing road of fat-gain as the crooked food companies and their deceptive food label claims.”

>>> You’ll find more details on this essential guide that will help show you which foods to eat to burn fat here: Foods that burn fat

>>> Not all healthy foods are all that healthy!

This revealing book also tackles a lot of the myths around what is actually a healthy food and what masquerades as a healthy food, but that’s loaded with calories.

This eye opener of a book is only $39 dollars and I can assure you that you’ll devour all 121 pages!

A guest post by Sarah Maria Love Your Body, Love Your Life: 5 Steps to End Negative Body Obsession and Start Living Happily and Confidently

> When you look in the mirror, are you amazed by what you see?

> Are you smitten with your sexy body?

> Are you stunned by your own magnificence?

> Or do you look in the mirror and lament the size of your thighs?

> Grimace at the wrinkles appearing around your eyes?

> Agonize over that roll of belly fat that refuses to retreat, despite endless crunches and trips to the gym?

If you are like the vast majority of women, and a growing number of men, you answer “yes” to the latter questions far too often.

Statistics confirm that many people have a critical and harsh relationship with their bodies. They suffer from Negative Body Obsession, a condition marked by the near-constant and critical rumination about one’s physical appearance.

Whether you are a woman going through menopause, an adolescent in the midst of puberty, or a man slowly losing his once thick head of hair, it seems that no one is immune from these negative body thoughts.

Look at these startling numbers:

* Between 1997 and 2007, cosmetic surgery increased by 457 percent.

* By 2015, 17 percent of U.S. residents will receive cosmetic surgery, totaling 55 million procedures – almost one procedure for every five Americans.

* Approximately eight million Americans have an eating disorder.

* One in 200 American women suffers from anorexia.

* Two to three in 100 American women suffer from bulimia.

* An estimated 10 – 15% of people with anorexia or bulimia are males.

* Binge eating disorder is thought to affect 2-5% of the general population.

* One study found that one in ten teenage girls either binge eats or purges at least once a week. Binge eating among boys was 3%.

Fortunately, you can choose not to be a number. You can learn to feel great in and about your body, and you can begin without changing a single thing. You don’t have to invest in expensive plastic surgery, spend countless hours in the gym, or engage in extreme dieting.

You can actually use the power of your mind to change how you feel about your body so that you finally delight in your physical form. And you can do it right now.

Here are 6 simple steps to help you feel sexy in your skin:

1.Become aware of what you are thinking.

The first step is to become aware of the stories you are telling yourself about your body. Notice when you critique your body for being too much of this and not enough of that. You will discover that many of these thoughts are habitual, patterned responses that are not true reflections of reality. Explore the idea that you can start feeling beautiful immediately, in this moment, without changing a single thing.

2. Set an intention to change how you look at your body

Here are some examples:

When you grimace at your wrinkles in the mirror, set an intention to find beauty in your reflection.

When you want to suck in your stomach in a vain attempt to make it disappear, set an intention to appreciate the body that you have right now.

When you long to fit into a smaller clothing size, set an intention to unconditionally accept your body.

Make a conscious commitment to change the way you look at your body and yourself.

3. Take time to connect within

Are you waiting at the bus stop on your way to work? Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, allowing yourself to focus on the present moment.

Are you in the shower, getting ready to start your day? Turn your attention to the feeling of warm water cascading against you, gently caressing your body, and allow yourself to relax.

Practicing this present-moment awareness will help refine your ability to identify and detach from the negative dialogue about your body.

4. Your Body is Your Best Friend

Your human body is your truest ally. Collaborate with it to create optimum health.

Make healthy eating a priority.

Remember to exercise, and make it enjoyable. If the gym makes you cringe, opt instead for yoga, Pilates, dance, or good old walking.

In our harried and hurried world, take time to relax and rejuvenate.

Offer your body gratitude and appreciation for it unwavering support and devotion.

5. Create Meaningful Moments

Every day is filled with countless tasks and errands. Remember that you can imbue each moment with meaning. It can be as simple as smiling at everyone you meet, reacting with compassion and love instead of anger, or making sure to tell your friends and loved ones how much you care about them.

6. You were born beautiful

Believing that you are unattractive is a learned habit. You can unlearn it and discover the Joy, Peace, and Love that are your natural sate and birthright.

So that is it – 6 Simple Steps to start feeling beautiful, right now, in this moment. You don’t have to go anywhere or do anything. There is nothing you can do, say, or buy that will make you any more perfect than you are in this very moment. Know this, and you will revel in your true beauty.

“This book will change your life — I love this book. It is brilliant. In it Sarah Maria touches the heart of body image issues- a lack of self love, a lack of connection to and trust in one’s own spirit. With practical tools and helpful anecdotes, she gives the reader a roadmap out of their negative body obsession through the cultivation of self-love, connection to spirit, and tapping in to the realm of universal intention. As a result, a reader who might have picked up the book because they’re tired of hating their body and simply want a way out of that will end up actually loving their body, loving others more fully AND learning to thrive and find joy in the everyday details of life. Thank you, Sarah! –S.
“Best Body Image Book I’ve Read — I was surprised at how easy to read, and how helpful this book is. More than just a one time read, I find that it is a book you carry with you, glancing at it for reinforcement of its powerful principles. There is very little dwelling on the “Negative” of the body image and a huge amount of help, insight, advice and pracitice aimed toward the art of loving yourself. I recommend this book to any woman ( or man ) who has worried that age, weight, or just the act of birth is a negative. I certainly intend to keep several on my shelf to hand out to those friends I know would be helped by it. Thanks for Sharing, Sarah Maria. — M. Dreisbach “Marianne”

“Brilliant and Powerful — The cornerstone of happiness is loving yourself and Sarah Maria eloquently explains this in her wonderful book. A must-read for every young woman before she enters puberty and every woman who has ever disliked what she saw in the mirror. A beautiful step-by-step guide to completely let go old limiting beliefs about yourself and your body and embrace your own amazing self. Simply brilliant! I adore Sarah and her work. — Debra Berndt”

“The Book We’ve Been Waiting For — So many helpful suggestions are offered in this book by one of the foremost authorities on body image. There are ideas for everyone of us.
I’ve heard Sarah Maria interviewed on a number of TV and radio programs, and is is gratifying to see her ideas put into a book that we can all use as handy reference. At last, the book we have been waiting for! — Jil”

“Hope for healthy body image! — This book offers an amazing, practical approach to ending negative body image. So many of us struggle with this and until now I did not even know what it was called. Reading this book and using the techniques Sarah Maria teaches has helped me let go of my negative body thoughts! I know after reading this book that I don’t have to live like this anymore and I can have a life of happiness! Thanks! — A. Gerber “Air force wife”

There are many different paths to weight loss. Some are successful and some are simply a colossal waste of time where you might end up gaining more weight than you’ve lost. If you are relying on diet pills or the latest fad diet to help you reach your ideal weight, you are wasting both your time and money!

I’m a huge advocate of a healthy lifestyle and I think those “lose-weight-fast” scams are only self-defeating exercises. The formula that works is really simple: you have to make smarter food choices AND you have to exercise.

Lately, I’ve been watching the new Dr. Oz Show (with Dr. Mehmet Oz, Oprah’s go-to medical expert), who tackles weight issues regularly. His counsel is always the same: diet and exercise. However, for some people, having what it takes to make better food choices on their own is the real challenge.

I don’t think that most people willingly eat themselves to death; it’s a combination of misinformation, information overload, emotional issues and giving up on themselves that keeps so many trapped in an overweight body.

If everyone were able to live on a weight-loss farm permanently or afford a nutritionist or personal trainer year-round, there would be no obesity crisis. But the truth is that most people have to battle their bulging weight alone.

What prevents the majority of people from reaching their weight-loss goals is not which diet plan they choose, but their inability to stick to it.

I’ve heard about hypnosis as an affordable way for regular people to deal with the challenges of weight loss and thought I’d look into it a bit more (in fact, only this morning I saw a segment on the rising popularity of hypnosis in France to aid in weight loss and quitting smoking).

>>> You’ll find more details on this life-changing hypnosis program here: Enjoying Weight Loss

I’ve featured the results a former participant on The Biggest Loser achieved with hypnosis after he regained a lot of the weight after leaving the show (a former The Biggest Loser participant said 90 per cent gain back some of the weight they lost after the show ended).

If you missed that review, you can catch it here: The Biggest Loser falls short

I decided to take my readers through the experience of hypnosis as a way to support weight loss goal by experiencing the process myself!

>>>> What is hypnosis anyways?

* Hypnosis was approved in the late 1950s as a useful tool by the American Medical Association and British Medical Association. It was endorsed for clinical use by licensed health practitioners only.

* Hypnosis is the original mind and body medicine.

* A hypnosis therapist will use words to help you go into a suggestive state, like a trance.

* Contrary to what you see in the movies, you are more awake than asleep!

* Have you ever driven from your office to your home without being fully alert? Because your mind was focused on something else, your driving became automatic. Hypnosis works on the same principles.

* When you focus with a lot of intensity, it’s like you are hypnotising yourself.

* In the Enjoying Weight Loss hypnosis program, Dr. Roberta Temes suggests some “habits” that will instil change in your life, such as “you will crave vegetables or “you will have no interest in junk food”.

* The stronger your mind, the easier it will be to accomplish your weight goals … so if you think you are too strong-minded (or stubborn) to let hypnosis work for you, you may be surprised by the results.

* Throughout the hypnosis experience you are in total control. You can speak, you can open your eyes, you can talk, you can hear, you can move and you can leave any state of hypnosis simply by opening your eyes.

* You can never stay in a permanent state of hypnosis – it’s not possible. You control when you get out of it.

* There is no such thing as a controlling hypnotist and a vulnerable patient, like you’ve seen in the movies. You can get out of any hypnosis state just by opening your eyes (it’s that easy!).

* You will feel really good after a hypnosis session … just like you would after a good massage (so rested and relaxed that nothing else matters!).

* Most people who try hypnosis love it and often regret not having been open-minded enough to try it sooner in their lives.

>>>> Who created the hypnosis program for weight loss?

Dr. Roberta Temes has been working with overweight people and the power of hypnosis for many years with great success. In fact, Dr. Temes is a world-renowned psychotherapist who has helped thousands of people resolve their sleep- and weight-loss issues.

Dr. Temes is also the author of “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Hypnosis”, and editor of Medical Hypnosis, the first medical textbook addressing hypnosis. She is a member of the faculty of SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn, New York.

As you can see, her credentials are impressive! It’s no wonder so many overweight and obese patients have worked with Dr. Temes to achieve their goal of reaching a healthier weight.

>>> Here are a few things you might want to know about Dr. Temes:

=>Dr. Temes has a really high rate of success with her clients

=> Doctors, nutritionists, personal trainers have recommended their clients to work with Dr. Temes to help them lose weight.

If you cannot afford the cost of one-on-one sessions with Dr. Temes, here’s another way for you to take advantage of her incredible experience: Enjoying Weight Loss

>>>> A few testimonials about Enjoying Weight Loss:

I am back in control. This is the tool that gave me back my life and my desire to be the best I can be! If you are struggling to find your FOCUS to get back on or stay on your Program, you’ll want to check out these fantastic, positive hypnosis CDs, Enjoying Weight Loss by Dr. Roberta Temes.”"

I have been listening Dr. Roberta Temes’ CD’s for the last three months and am very impressed- I absolutely love listening to them. It’s one of my favorite parts of my day when I can come home from work, drop everything, and completely relax with my favorite track. The last couple are super short too, so no excuse for not ”fitting it in” to my busy day! It’s difficult to choose what my favorite aspect of the program is, but I really appreciate the emphasis on positive affirmations and guided imagery. Seeing things the way you want them to be has a subtle and underappreciated, yet nonetheless very formative power.

Just after my initial completion of the program in accordance to the instructions, I went home on Christmas vacation. Normally this time of year degenerates into a binge on sugary foods that leaves me feeling guilty and gross afterward. But not this year- I had the ”Avoiding Temptation” track on my ipod and I listened to it twice per day for good measure while home. I indulged to be sure, but this time lacked that out-of-control feeling that often characterizes ”cheating” on your diet. I felt like I was making the consious decision to eat (and enjoy) that cookie or slice of fruit cake at the party. What a blessing.

“I am now down 20 pounds and still have not had any problems with stress eating (my lifetime habit is to overeat). I am also walking close to 5,000 steps per day now (a little over 2.5 miles) and into a size 16 from a 20/22 and people are finally beginning to notice. I personally thank you for your program even though I don’t understand how it works. I am starting to like who I see in the mirror.” — Syndi Ellison, Advertising & Finance Manager, Washington State Magazine

“My mom sent me your Enjoying Weight Loss CDs as a not-so-subtle hint. I was about 40 pounds overweight and had tried hypnosis for weight loss before with no results, so I was not optimistic. I have never been able to follow a diet for over three weeks, so I decided that this time I would use your CDs in combination with The South Beach Diet and see what happened. It has now been a little over two months and I have lost 25 pounds! The best part is that following the diet has been easy this time — it is almost like I can’t NOT follow it.” — Kevin Goodrich, Miami, FL

“Several weeks ago I wrote a letter about how effective Dr. Roberta Temes’ CD program had been in helping me lose weight and maintain an exercise program. I wrote that not only did I want to lose 15 pounds, but I also needed to find a way to adhere to a rather strict hypoallergenic diet without feeling deprived.

I’ve reached my goal weight and haven’t been seriously tempted to eat any of the foods off limits to me. Not only do I continue to exercise, but I look forward to it every day. In the past, if I was exercising on a regular basis and the exercise was interrupted, I would never resume. Recently I had to stop because of the flu, and I was actually anxious to start exercising again — something I never thought could happen.

The most wonderful change has been the difference in my approach to maintenance. Previously, once I lost weight I used that as an excuse to resume eating all I wanted. Now I don’t even want to eat that way and planning each day’s menu has become an interesting part of my routine. I don’t deny myself my “guilty pleasures,” but instead plan for them as a part of what I eat. A piece of candy or a small dish of ice cream after supper has become completely satisfying — again, something I never thought could happen.” — Deena Parker, Columbia, MO

“Enjoying Weight Loss has a lot to offer: a warm, fun hypnotist offering sound dietary advice and a variety of trances for a range of issues, from choosing a food plan to avoiding temptation.” – SHAPE Magazine, as reviewed by Jean Fain, Harvard Medical School.

>>> You’ll find more details on this life-changing hypnosis program here: Enjoying Weight Loss

>>>> How does the hypnotherapy program for weight loss works?

Enjoying Weight Loss consists of a set of four CDs. Each session lasts around 15 to 20 minutes.

Enjoying Weight Loss CD 1:

=> Introduction to Hypnosis

Enjoying Weight Loss CD 2:

=> Weight Loss Essentials

=> Selecting Your Food Program

=> Eating Smart (this is music to my ears!)

Enjoying Weight Loss CD 3:

=> Avoiding Temptation

=> Exercising Regularly

Enjoying Weight Loss CD 4:

=> Appreciating Yourself

=> Maintaining Your Weight Loss

You cannot realistically expect to change a lifetime of bad eating habits in one or two sessions. But, as you listen to the CDs on a daily basis, you will begin to want to eat in a healthy way. You’ll notice your old habits will fade away as they are replaced by new ones. It doesn’t mean you won’t eat any of your favourite cheat foods for the rest of your life, but your mind will more likely gravitate towards healthier foods 90 per cent of the time.

After listening to all the sessions a few times, you can choose the ones you find most helpful or that you want to work on the most. I have a feeling a lot of people will spend some time listening to the “Avoiding Temptation” session because it’s such a weakness for so many.

As you can see, this is quite a flexible program because you can listen to particular sessions for particular needs. It becomes very practical at different times of the year when you have to be surrounded by your favourite temptation foods — think of summer picnics, BBQs or holiday feasts or high stress periods. Those are usually the times in your life where you throw caution to the wind, eat unconsciously and end up regretting it.

>>>> What can I expect within the first 3 weeks?

After the initial 3-week period, you’ll notice subtle changes to your daily routine. The changes are going to be small, so don’t expect the earth to move and the seas to part. Here are some of the subtle changes I’m talking about:

* Perhaps you are drinking more water, and snacking less.

* Maybe you notice yourself eating (and enjoying) more vegetables.

* Maybe you are starting to become satisfied with smaller portion sizes.

You’ll also notice that going into hypnosis becomes easier and easier as you learn to allow the sessions to work for you.

>>>> How can you get more information to help you achieve a healthier weight?

This hypnosis program is all about results, minus fluff and gimmicks!

You’ll reprogram yourself to accomplish the following:

=> Avoid excess calories without relying on willpower

=> Create healthy eating patterns

=> Choose your own food plan and follow it with ease

=> Automatically stick to your exercise plan

=> Experience the natural sleep pattern that aids weight loss

=> Keep the weight off

If you’ve tried everything to lose weight and nothing’s working, then you have nothing to lose (but unwanted weight!) by trying this weight loss hypnosis program!

>>> You’ll find more details on this life-changing hypnosis program here: Enjoying Weight Loss

>>>> Are you a smoker dealing with weight loss issues?

There’s no way to sugar-coat it: If you are overweight and smoke, you are in a very bad place. Being overweight brings on a long list of ailments and if you combine that with the negative effects of smoking, you are absolutely not at your optimal health.

Hypnosis can also help you deal with your addiction and quit smoking for good.

Dr. Randy Gilchrist, a clinical psychologist at the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, has developed a hypnosis program to help you quit smoking and get back to better health.

The Non-Smoker’s Edge has been designed and developed to help you kick the nicotine habit and quit smoking for good without any weight gain!

>>> Find more about this life-changing hypnosis program here: Non-Smoker’s Edge

>>>> Here’s an inspiring testimonial:

“Since your hypnosis, I am not only staying away from smoking, but I also stopped eating the junk food I used to eat. There were no fireworks. I am simply a new person – how I’ve wanted to be for a long time. This is wonderful!” – Kim Johnson, Sacramento, CA

“I have now been a non-smoker for one year and four months. To this day I have no desire to smoke. Here I am at age 50, training to run my first 5K. Try that with a cigarette in your mouth! Thank you for helping make this easy.” — Jules Hardin, Cedar Rapids, IA

If you’ve tried everything to quit smoking but are still spending thousands each year on your nicotine addiction, then you have nothing to lose (but that unhealthy habit!) by trying this hypnosis program to help you quit smoking!

obesity_uk_french-diet

I’ll admit that between images of Victoria Beckham, Elizabeth Earle and Kate Moss, you might be tempted to think that all British women are super-super-slim.

I’ll be honest, I was a bit surprised the first time I went to London and noticed the difference between the portrayal of famous British female figures in the fashion and celebrity media versus the women I was seeing on High Street (London’s main shopping street)!

When you’ve been to France as many times as I have, you can wrongly think that all European women are thin as rail and wear these tiny little sizes, but it seems that Daily Mail has also realized there might be a misconception because they just published early this morning a fascinating featured that can pretty much be summed up by the title: “British women don’t mind being Europe’s biggest (it’s French females, the slimmest, who worry most about weight)”.

It surely boils down to diet. I’ll admit that after sampling the French diet and the British diet, it’s no wonder that French women are better able to maintain a slimmer figure than their British counterparts.

I’ll also have to say that from my experience I also find that the quality of food in France is different because the French do not eat as much process foods and what they call take-away/take-out in France is like gourmet in most other countries. You’ll also find that in France the portions are smaller than they are in the U.K.

Here’s another thing about the French, since they are quite straight forward, a French person would not hesitate to let you know in no uncertain terms that you’ve gained a large amount of weight and it was time for you to stop shoving food down your throat because the additional weight is not becoming. I’m not even making this up or joking. You’ve got to love the French for being so honest with their feelings.

A few other interesting points of this research is how French women see themselves as being bigger than they are while British women saw themselves much thinner than they actually were. Perhaps, this might have the biggest impact on how each group approach food. If you think you are thinner than you are, you might not think twice before going for that second portion of double-decker chocolate cake.

You’ll want to look at the graph in the article courtesy of the European Commission that shows the average weight of European women. British women tip the scale as being the fattest in Europe while the French are the slimmest (and Italian women are in second place of the slimmest women in Europe … AND they eat pasta daily, but rarely eat junk food).

I had read another study that had suggested that Greek women were the second heaviest in Europe (out of 15 countries studied) but this new study finds women from the Netherlands tipping the scale as the second heaviest women in Europe.

Here’s the precise order from the heaviest women in Europe to the slimmest:

1) U.K.

2) Netherlands

3) Greece

4) Portugal

5) Finland

6) Belgium

7) Spain

#8) Sweden

9) Ireland

10) Luxembourg

11) Denmark

12) Germany

13) Austria

14) Italy

15) France

One thing I disagree with is how they’ve put the photos of Kate Winslet versus Audrey Tautou (main actress of the new Chanel movie). They call Kate “curvy”, I don’t find Kate curvy at all, I think Kate is quite normal if you ask me and I think she looks absolutely smashing at that figure.

I find that as a woman with plenty of curves from the waist down when the media says “curvy” it has a bit of a negative connotation. As much as I like the French, I’d prefer having Kate’s body anytime as opposed to Audrey’s body which I find to be too tinny. Now, to be fair both Kate and Audrey are actresses, if most British women were are slim as Kate Winslet there would be no point in writing a article because Kate’s body is extremely healthy and the severe obesity problem in the U.K. is no laughing matter and the women affected are several-several pounds heavier than Kate Winslet. The U.K. might be the country with the most “body/weight” shows I know with shows like: How to Look Good Naked, SuperSize versus SuperSkinny, Cook Yourself Thin and You are what you eat.

You can read more about these British shows here:

You can read the full Daily Mail article here and you can also read the comments. When I first saw this story earlier this morning (at 1 am) there were only 10 comments and now there are 10 times as many comments. I’m sure this topic will generate a lot of debate and I’m also 100% that British women won’t be too pleased with the label: “fastest women in Europe”!

15_essential_health_tips

Women are so good at taking care of everyone around them that many forget to put themselves and their health first. There are so many things women do well when it comes to sabotaging their health and I really think they are selling themselves short without always recognizing the consequences of their actions.

I thought it might be a good idea to look at 15 things women do to sabotage their health in the hopes that this list will become a wake-up call for many women.

1) There’s nothing wrong with having one or two bad habits: Thinking that eating well all week long allows you to have a few “weekend cigarettes” without affecting your health or going to the gym all week and end up finishing two bottles of red wine on Saturday with the pretext that red wine is good for you is simply foolish. Even though you maintain overall good health habits, the fact that you are smoking or/and drinking heavily will affect your health negatively.

2) I really don’t have the time to exercise because my life is way too crazy: Juggling a career and a family is not an easy task in the new millennium. There are far more pressures on women today than at any other time in history because we have more choices and freedom and that means that we might be tempted to “have it all at the same time”. I truly believe that in life we can have it all … but NOT at the same time. If you are over 40, you should know that lack of exercise and chronic stress are the two best way for you to sabotage your health.

3) There’s nothing wrong with gaining a few pounds: You’ve got to maintain your weight and avoid weight gain by adopting healthy food habits and a regular fitness regime. Since most women over 40 tend to gain one extra pound each year if they are not on top of their health and fitness regime, you can see how being careless can really add up over the years and you can find yourself at 50 with an extra 10-20 lbs without understanding what happened. Your metabolism will drop if you are not active, so you really need to make a huge effort and get serious about finding a sport that you like enough to want to stick to for a very long time.

4) I really don’t need that many hours of sleep anyways: Alas, as we get older, our sleep quality can deteriorate unless we are pro-active at taking measures to ensure that we sleep well each night of the week. There’s been a long standing myth that as you get older your body really doesn’t require that much sleep … but you do need a minimum number of hours to function properly. It’s true that a lot of women in their 50s will have to deal with sleep interruptions caused by menopause and fluctuating hormones, but there are things you can do to increase your odds of a good night sleep, such as avoid caffeine past a certain time of the day, limit how much you drink, skip the late night TV, read before going to bed, try exercise, meditation, deep breathing … and the list goes on. You’ve got to be pro-active in ensuring that you sleep enough to allow your body to rest.

5) A little bit of sun is good … not to mention that my skin is already damaged: You cannot change the past and reverse the number of hours you spend baking under the sun for that perfect tan, but as you age, you can surely make sure that you are more careful about sun exposure because you know now the effect dangerous UV rays can have on the skin.

6) My family history is devoid of serious illnesses … so I’m ok: Genetics play an important role in our overall health, but lifestyle trumps many genetic advantages you might have. The world in which we live is VERY different from the one your grandmother grew up in and with increased stress, sedentary lifestyles (lack of physical activity), overwhelming pollution and increased exposure to toxic chemicals, your chances of developing serious diseases are no longer solely linked to your gene pool.

7) I’ve always been thin and I don’t see the need to exercise: You don’t exercise solely to lose weight or else I would have stopped exercising a decade ago. You should exercise to keep your body fit and strong. You need to exercise to get your heart rate going and you need to incorporate strength training to maintain you bone and muscle mass as you age … EVEN if you are naturally a size 4! Here’s another reason why you might want to start thinking of exercising even if you are thin … as you age your skin will become looser because the muscle density is diminishing. I constantly see older women who have been diligent at exercising versus women who are only starting to exercise in their 50s and the difference between the two bodies is simply jaw-dropping. If you keep fit your entire life, as you age your body will remain very youthful and strong.

#8) I only see a doctor when I’m sick: If I had a dollar for every woman who has fed me that line over the years, I’d be living in a penthouse at Trump Towers in downtown New York City and I’d call it my headquarters! So many women don’t go for their annual check-up simply because they don’t “feel” sick. The reality is that you want your doctor to follow your health progression and you surely want your doctor to detect anything in the early stages that can be cured by early prevention. You are lucky and so blessed not to be or feel sick and you want to maintain that … AND that’s why you NEED to go for your annual check-up each year.

9) It’s just menopause … I don’t need to worry: It’s easy to brush everything you feel in your 50s as a sub-symptom of menopause, but that also means that you might be turning a blind-eye to a potentially seriously illness. Since you didn’t spent seven or eight years in medical school, it’s best to check with your doctor to ensure that whatever you’re going through is in fact associated to your menopausal stage and not something else that needs immediate medical attention.

10) I always forget to floss: Flossing should really be mandatory in my book and I’ve only started reading lately that there is a link between gum disease and heart disease! YIKES! Can you imagine that a few minutes each night getting rid of plaque on your teeth can keep your heart healthy? I’m not making this up. There was a study conducted in 2007 by the American Journal of Periodontology that concluded that people who were under 60 with advanced gum disease (including tooth loss) are at greater risk of a heart attack. Flossing is essential at any age, but it becomes even more important as you age because when you hit your 40s and 50s because you automatically produce less saliva and therefore your chances of ridding your mouth naturally of bacteria diminishes because there is not enough saliva production.

11) I’m running all day long as is … I really don’t need to work out: I’m sorry ladies, but in my world, a women’s body is a temple and you need to care and honour that temple and that means women NEED to find time to exercise. How many 10-minute exercise DVDs are available on the market today? We can all find even 30 minutes to keep our body fit. It can be as simple as cutting out 30 minutes of TV and going for a walk!

12) I feel down all the time: If you are suffering from postpartum depression, it’s easy to pinpoint the reason why you feel blue all the time. It’s also expected that many women in their mid-50s will also deal with mood swings because of hormonal changes. But, for many women who aren’t new moms or at the menopause stage but who are dealing with life’s pressures, stress, demands, over-booked lives and constant worries … depression can become a serious issue. It’s easy to brush off our feelings, but when you wake every morning feeling down and out … it might be time to consult a doctor. As a general rule of thumb, physical activity will do a lot for moderate depression symptoms, but if exercise doesn’t do it for you … you really need to take this seriously and talk to your GP (general practitioner) who will most likely refer you to a psychiatrist or a psychologist.

13) Who sits down anymore to eat? I cannot tell you how incredibly annoyed I get when I see people stuffing their faces while walking or sitting on the subway. I’m not talking about someone eating ice cream, a chocolate bar, chips or cookies. I’m talking about people eating out of a take-out container with a fork while doing ten other things. When you eat on the run, you don’t take time to appreciate the food, you tend to eat more because your brain doesn’t have time to register that you are full and God knows how badly you are screwing up your digestive system.

14) I only eat a couple times a day: While stuffing your face while multitasking or walking about town is not a very good idea, skipping meals is even worst. Do not make the mistake of thinking that you are “saving” up on calories by skipping meals because you are only tricking your body into thinking that you are starving and your body will simply burn calories at a slower rate (basically your body is STORING fat). Not to mention that skipping meals means that you are skimping out on essential nutrients for muscle mass, hair, nails, skin and the list goes on.

15) I only eat quality foods so I don’t have to worry about portion control: This was actually the line a participant on one of my favourite British shows on diet and weight management “SuperSkinny vs SuperSize” had told herself and she found herself on the show tipping the scale at 250+ lbs. You should get high marks for eating healthy, but that doesn’t exempt you from controlling the amount of food you take in. Unless you have a profession that is physically demanding (like a bike courier for example) you should restrain your daily calorie intake because as urbanites, we don’t burn excessive amount of calories that would justify huge portions. If you are unsure of the proper portion size, you should do some research online, but the rule of thumb is that we need far less food than we think we do. Not long ago I had read that the portion size for a plate of pasta in America was easily four or five times that of a typical portion size in Italy. I cannot tell you how many North Americans complain how small the portions are in countries like France and Italy … when in reality it’s because they’ve been trained to think that supersize plates are normal!

bob_greene_oprah_trainer

Since January 7th, Bob Greene (aka Oprah’s fitness guru and trainer) has embarked on a US wide tour to promote his site “Best Life” and to sign books.

Since 1992, Bob Greene has been helping Queen Oprah remain at a healthy weight and he’s been making a killing in the process. Everyone would only dream of getting the “stamp of approval” from Oprah because you are guaranteed access to the Millionaires’ Club (pick me Oprah, pick me)!

Bob Greene has sold several thousand copies of all of his books (if not millions) and he’s now part of Oprah’s go-to-people when it comes to health and fitness.

Since Oprah has this celebrity trainer on speed dial and he no longer charges her for his services (no kidding, he’s making way more money than he could ever dream of with his books and speaking engagements), you have to wonder, how can it be that she still managed to gain 60 lbs since her ideal 2005 weight of 160 lbs (yes, I know she has a thyroid problem).

After watching Bob Greene on Oprah’s show talking about how difficult it was to watch her gain the weight back, I had one nagging question on my mind: as a professional fitness trainer, how can it be that Bob Greene didn’t intervene sooner to help control Oprah’s weight gain?

The interview with Bob Greene made him seem like he was a spectator and not an active participant in Oprah’s fitness success, yet he’s selling books, getting bookings to speak, getting mega sponsor dollars and promoting other types of programs every day.

Does it mean that Bob Greene failed his #1 client (the most visible and most powerful woman in the world)?

I’ll be honest, this question popped into my head a few days after I had reviewed Oprah’s Best Day kick off on January 5th, 2009 and late last night I was surfing the pages of the New York Times when I found an article that actually supported my sneaky suspicions.

Here was my original post on Oprah’s weight gain: Oprah Winfrey: I’m cursed with a fat sentence!

http://www.mybeautymatch.com/oprah-winfrey-i-am-cursed-with-a-fat-sentence/

Hollywood trainer Gunnar Peterson (he’s trained Jennifer Lopez, Penelope Cruz and Mike Tyson to name a few) feels that Oprah’s falling off the wagon is partially Bob Greene’s fault.

If you have two minutes, it’s worth reading, but I think the closing sentence from Gunnar Peterson says it all”

“Great plan, Bob! In theory it’s a 10, but guess what: it’s not working.”

You can read the full article here: Her Bulge, His Book and Their Plan B

2009 will be an interesting year because I look forward to seeing how Oprah loses the weight and how many special programs she’ll devote to her quest on the Oprah Show. It will also be interesting to see what new diet & fitness plans Bob Greene comes up with!

What do you think of Oprah’s weight gain? Do you think that Bob Greene, her trainer, should have stepped in sooner or to you think Oprah has only herself to blame for “getting fat again”?

Yesterday, January 5th, 2009, marked the debut of Oprah’s “Your Best Life” series. Yesterday’s show was devoted to Oprah’s confession about gaining 40 lbs.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the show because it’s old news that Oprah has had a life long struggle with weight gain and she’s known to be the most famous celebrity yo-yo dieter … she’s tried every diet under the sun and she always seems to gain all the weight back.

It’s true that when she dropped to a healthy 160 lbs in 2005, it seems that Queen Oprah had really beat the battle of the bulge … but of course her December 2008 public confession proved otherwise.

*** This is a long post describing Oprah’s weight loss challenge and I’d love to hear what readers have to say … be sure to leave me a comment!***

It’s true that when she dropped to a healthy 160 lbs in 2005, it seems that Queen Oprah had really beat the battle of the bulge … but of course her December 2008 public confession proved otherwise.

o_magazine_oprah_160lbs

I sat down in front of my telly with pen and paper and I took copious notes. During the first show of her “Your Best Life” series Bob Greene (Oprah fitness guru) also weighed in on Oprah’s weight gain and he also revealed a lot of very insightful information about Oprah’s state of mind during the time she came to realize that she was putting on weight again.

Since this was a 1 hour show, I’ll use point form to highlight the most important things.

* Oprah has a thyroid problem which means she’ll always have a hunger issue. I consulted the internet to learn more about having a thyroid problem. The first thing that shocked me was the fact that 59 million Americans have a thyroid problem! This means that worldwide the number could easily surpass 100 million people!

* Explaining a thyroid problem in a few words is not easy, but it sums up to the fact that Oprah’s thyroid problem will forever have a serious impact on her weight. I’ve found the following article that highlights the signs of a thyroid problem: Top 10 Signs That You May Have a Thyroid Problem.

* Oprah’s thyroid problem started when she was 53. Her symptoms were sleep issues, heart palpitations and leg swelling.

* Oprah’s weight gain became such an issue she could no longer stand seeing herself in full on the cover of her magazine and her staff worked around her insecurities about her weight by only doing head shots instead of full body shots.

* Oprah describes her feelings around having to shoot photos for the cover shot of her magazine as: “I didn’t feel happy or proud of my body and I had a LOT of anxiety about putting my body on display”.

“Here I am the most visible person on the planet trying not to be seen on the cover of my own magazine”. – Oprah Winfrey

“In 2008, I talked the talk, but I didn’t practice what I preach on my own

show!” — Oprah Winfrey

* Oprah started putting the weight back in February 2007. It started with 5 lbs, then it went to 10 lbs then she realized she was up a dress size and that’s when she started feeling overwhelmed.

* Oprah’s wardrobe consist of clothing in size 10, 12, 14 and elastic wear to quickly and easily adapt to her weight gain or weight loss.

* Because of this thyroid problem, Oprah will have to deal with a weight issue for the rest of her life.

oprah_weight_gain_200_pounds_again

* One of the major reasons why Oprah feels she has gained weight is because she’s been putting herself last on the priority list (a common problem among women).

* Oprah also feels that her sleep issue (she was simply not sleeping and she spent nights looking at the clock tick) has left her exhausted and tired all the time.

* Oprah’s mega-packed schedule has not helped her either … her days are too booked to think of healthy eating. Basically, Queen Oprah is suffering from one of the most common ailments of our time: her life is out of balance!

* Oprah admitted that falling off the wagon is a hard thing to do … especially when you are a public figure.

* Oprah admitted to something that quite shocked me :

“My thyroid problem is like a FAT sentence … so why not eat whatever I want since anything I eat means I’ll gain weight”. — Oprah Winfrey

* Oprah explained with a pained face that she felt completely defeated. I’ll be honest, at that point I really started to feel badly for her because you could read the immense pain on her face. This “weight” thing was like something that won her over and she wasn’t happy about feeling so helpless and almost hopeless.

* Everyone has their own weakness when it comes to food. Some people drown their sorrow in ice cream and some people eat boxes of chocolates. Oprah’s drug of choice used to be potato chips and she’s not replaced that addiction with organic blue corn potato chips … I’m talking about eating one bag of potato chip every single day. I love organic blue corn potato chips. They are my favourites, but I usually eat a small handful with a sandwich. When Oprah revealed she ate and entire bag each day (and I’m sure there is way more that she’s eating, but not revealing) I was truly able to understand the depth of her weight problem.

“Here I was 53, overweight, exhausted, overwhelmed” – Oprah Winfrey

What Bob Greene (Oprah’s fitness coach/guru) had to say about Oprah’s weight gain:

Bob Greene explained how difficult it was for him to watch Oprah go through so many ordeals with her weight gain.

What struck me the most about Bob Greene’s interview are these facts:

* At some point, Bob Greene thought that Oprah might be suffering from low grade depression because she looked like she had lost her zest for life.

* He describes her movements as being slower than usual and there was a dullness about her personality that he had not witnessed before … it was like “she wasn’t there”.

* The biggest shock for me was when Bob Greene said:

“Oprah never learned how to be happy”.

I have to say that not only did my jaw drop, but my face started contorting into those grimaces you make when you are eating something sour. I could simply not understand how one of the richest women on the face of the planet and certainly the most visible and notorious celebrity could not be happy.

Maybe, it’s only me, but I’ve always seen Oprah as someone who had it all: a partner for over two decades, a close relationship with a girlfriend who is more like a sister than a friend, a career she loves, a job that allows her to influence the lives of so many of her viewers, the ability to buy ANYTHING she wants (because she has more money than God), a jewellery collection that constantly makes me cry with envy, beautiful spacious homes (plural, not singular on the homes) and the ability to travel as many times as she wants in a year.

I look at that and I think, I wouldn’t be unhappy if I had all of these blessings. If I’m missing the boat, here, I’d love to hear what readers have to say about Bob Greene’s admission.

Oprah’s 2009 Weight Loss Plan:

Oprah is keeping it really simple and she’s right because it’s the one way to succeed. Here’s her plan:

1) Put herself first on top of the priority list so she doesn’t forget to take care of her body.

2) Find more balance in her life by doing little things like booking “me” time.

3) Having more joy in her life.

4) Return to healthier eating patterns.

5) Going back to cardio training (this is the only way to control your weight).

6) Incorporating weight training again as part of her fitness plan (you know my point of view when it comes to weight training and women … I think it’s simply crucial).

7) Work out every day.

Since Oprah gained quite a lot of weight, her weight loss challenge and struggle will last all year and I’m sure there will be many (MANY) shows devoted to Oprah’s weight loss progress and I’m certain that Dr. Oz will be on the show many times to help viewers keep a health body … even when they are trying to lose weight.

Some great resources from Oprah’s web site:

I hope you are soaking in all of these great tips from Dr. John Berardi! You’ll find the last 7 tips from Dr. Berardi’s 27 tips to kick-start your diet.

Tip #20 How Much Water?

by Dr. John Berardi

You always hear experts recommending that you drink more water but how many of you actually do it? And how much is enough? Well, check out this chart below for some interesting data on water loss.

Water Loss/ Normal Weather No exercise/ Warm Weather No exercise /Exercise in Warm Weather (85° F)

Skin 350 mL/ 350 mL/ 350 mL

Respiratory Tract 250 mL/ 350 mL/ 650 mL

Urine 1400 mL/ 1200 mL/ 500 mL

Feces 100 mL/ 100 mL/ 100 mL

Sweat 100 mL/ 1400 mL/ 5000 mL

Total 2,300 mL (2.3L)/ 3,300 mL (3.3L)/ 6,600 mL (6.6L)

It should be clear that quite a bit of water is lost per day, especially if you’re an athlete. Since most people can get about 1.5L of water from their food and from metabolic water production, for a margin of safety, I suggest:

Sedentary individuals drink at least 2L or about 8 cups of water per day

Athletes in normal climates drink at least 3L or about 12 cups of water per day.

Athletes in hot weather climates drink at least 4L or about 16 cups of water per day.

Tip #21 Increasing Water Intake

by Dr. John Berardi

Sedentary individuals should drink at least 2L or about 8 cups of water per day, athletes should drink at least 3L or about 12 cups of water per day, and athletes in hot weather climates drink at least 4L or about 16 cups of water per day.

Since following these recommendations can prevent dehydration and can actually assist with fat loss, you’d have to be a desiccated fool to ignore them. However, try as they might, some individuals find it difficult to ingest up to a gallon of water per day. So try out these three proven strategies for increasing water ingestion:

Drink cold water – cold water is more palatable, improving ‘mouth feel’ and ingestion

Add lemon – lemon increases urge to drink and also kills bacteria

Chuggables – always carry some sort of jug of water around to ensure you’re drinking. Rubbermaid makes a nice blue top container (Chuggables) that we recommend to our clients.

Tip #22 Fat Recommendations – How To Meet Them

by Dr. John Berardi

So how much fat do we need and what kinds? While there’s a lot of debate nowadays, most of the real fat experts agree that a good balance of the three is the way to go if you want to give the old ticker a fighting chance. In other words, your goal is to consume 1/3 of your fat from saturated fatty acids, 1/3 from monounsaturated fatty acids, and 1/3 from polyunsaturated fatty acids. But it’s important to learn what kinds of foods contain the different types of fatty acids. So use this handy chart below to learn which fatty acids are found in a number of common foods.

By learning which foods contain which fatty acids, a balanced fat approach should be a snap.

Food % Saturated Fat % Monounsaturated Fat % Polyunsaturated Fat

Almonds 10% 68% 22%

Beef 55% 40% 4%

Brazil Nuts 26% 36% 38%

Canola Oil 5% 57% 38%

Cashews 20% 62% 18%

Cheese 67% 26% 7%

Chicken 31% 49% 20%

Coconut Oil 86% 9% 5%

Duck 35% 52% 13%

Eggs 39% 43% 18%

Flax Seed Oil 8% 18% 74%

Hazelnuts 8% 82% 10%

Herring 22% 55% 18%

Macadamia Nuts 16% 82% 2%

Milk 67% 26% 7%

Olive Oil 13% 75% 12%

Palm Oil 50% 41% 9%

Peanuts 15% 51% 34%

Pecans 8% 66% 26%

Pine Nuts 15% 40% 45%

Pistachios 13% 72% 15%

Pork / Lard 40% 48% 12%

Salmon 20% 30% 40%

Sesame Oil 15% 42% 43%

Walnuts 10% 24% 66%

Tip #23 Omega 3 Snacks

by Dr. John Berardi

Once you’re splitting up your fats correctly (about 1/3 of your fat intake coming from each of the three types of fat), your next goal should be to balance out your omega 6: omega 3 ratio. Do this and you’re arteries will be jumping for joy and they’ll have less body fat around them to impede their jump height.

While most of you probably already know that the omega 6: omega 3 balance is critical, I’m sure many of you are wondering if you can balance out the 6:3 ratio without having to pour another tablespoon of flaxseed oil down the gullet?

How about trying some pumpkin seeds or flaxseeds? Pumpkin seeds provide a 2:1 ratio of omega 6 fatty acids to omega 3 fatty acids, increasing the EFA content of your diet while putting your fat intake back in balance. Also, adding flaxseeds to your diet is a good idea. Grind these seeds up in a coffee grinder and add to your meals. Flaxseeds provide fiber, protein, and a 3:1 ratio of omega 3: omega 6 fatty acids. Your arteries will thank you.

Tip #24 Cook Once, Eat Twice

by Dr. John Berardi

To insure that you eat a healthy lunch during your busy work or school day, double-cook dinner each night. Simply cook a double-portion of each dinner meal and eat the second half of dinner for lunch the next day. This is, of course, assuming your dinner meals are complete and contain a complement of protein, carbs, fats, and fruits and veggies.

Tip #25 The Critical Meal

by Dr. John Berardi

Breakfast is a critical meal. After a catabolic overnight fast, a balanced breakfast helps to regulate blood sugar, helps to regulate energy balance, and helps to control late-day cravings that lead to overfeeding. Be sure to include a serving or two of lean protein like an egg white omelet (throw in a yolk or two), some cheese, some dairy like plain yogurt or cottage cheese, some lean turkey bacon or sausage, or even a protein shake on the side. Men should be shooting for 30-50 grams of protein and women should be shooting for 20-40 grams of protein in this meal.

Tip #26 Berardi’s Law

by Dr. John Berardi

If a food is in your possession or located in your residence, you’ll eventually eat it. If you wish to be healthy and lean, you must remove all foods not conducive to those goals from said residence and replace them with a variety of better, healthier choices. If you know someone whose house is stocked only with optimal food choices and yet who is not healthy and lean, look under his bed.

Tip #27 Eat Fat, Lose Fat

by Dr. John Berardi

To lose fat, sometimes you have to eat fat. Monounsaturated fats and certain polyunsaturates actually speed up the metabolic rate. The best of the fat burning bunch are the highly unsaturated omega 3s called EPA and DHA. These omega 3 fatty acids can potentially help burn blubber through a variety of different mechanisms. A diet supplemented with omega 3-rich fish oil promotes losses of body fat with simultaneous gains in lean mass. That’s right, more muscle and less fat, baby!

There were so many incredible tips that I thought I should really break it down in order NOT to overwhelm you.

Here are 15 more incredible nutrition tips from Dr. John Berardi:

Tip #11 Why Choose Oats

by Dr. John Berardi

If you’re looking to gain mass and have a good carbohydrate tolerance, place a bowl of fiber-rich, low-GI rolled oats along with ½ scoop of vanilla protein powder, frozen mixed berries, pineapple and a small quantity of mixed nuts right next to your omelet. This is a muscle building breakfast that’s hard to beat. I place this bowl right next to my omelet for a breakfast that’s hard to beat.

However, if you tend to hold a lot of body fat, just stick with protein, good fats, and veggies for breakfast. Save the non-fruit and veggie carbs till after exercise only – yes, even oatmeal.

I will have to keep the next 9 tips from Dr. John Berardi. You’ll find the last 3 posts in part three of this three part series.

Tip #12 Skip the Cheat Meal, Fatty

by Dr. John Berardi

Cheat meal frequency should be minimized when you’re over 15-20% body fat. Basically, the fatter you are, the more likely that any excess food will be shuttled toward body-fat storage rather than muscle mass. So skip the cheat meal unless you’re lean. And even then, think of it as an alternative food meal – not a cheat. Cheat meals are usually glorified forms of dietary debauchery. Alternative food meals allow for something a little different from the norm without the trough.

Tip #13 Unhealthy ‘Health Foods’

by Dr. John Berardi

Products that claim to be ‘Cholesterol Free’ and ‘Low in Saturated Fat’ often have the most trans-fatty acids. Unfortunately these are the products that most of the public thinks are ‘healthy.’ Remember, trans fats have absolutely no place in the diet! They’re the only type of fat highly associated with very negative health outcomes.

Tip #14 Protein for Fat Burning

by Dr. John Berardi

Protein is by far the most thermogenic of the macronutrients (protein, carbohydrate, and fat). Due to the high metabolic costs of processing it, protein provides fewer storable kcal. The thermic effect of a mixed meal is about 10% of intake, while the thermic effect of protein per se is more like 25-30%. That could mean reving up your metabolism by 200 kcal just from your 200-gram (800 kcal) protein intake.

Tip #15 Good Fats

by Dr. John Berardi

On average, most people should ensure that 25-35% of their energy intake comes from fat, with your fat intake split equally between saturates (animal fat), monounsaturates (olive oil, avocados, etc), and polyunsaturates (flax oil, salmon oil, etc.). Your total fat in the diet may vary but make sure you’re getting about 1/3 of each type for the best fat balance.

Tip #16 Don’t Displace, Dummy!

by Dr. John Berardi

There’s a big difference between a healthy diet to which treats are occasionally added and an ‘all-treat diet.’ In the former, unhealthy foods are consumed rarely and in addition to healthy foods. In the latter, unhealthy foods are consumed often and instead of healthy foods. This is called ‘food displacement’ and must be avoided if optimal body composition and health are your goals. Don’t displace nutrient dense food with empty calories!

Tip #17 The Ratio Diet

by Dr. John Berardi

Want to improve body composition, increase the ratio of fat lost to muscle lost during a diet, improve blood lipids (cholesterol and triglycerides), prevent wild fluctuations in blood glucose and insulin, and improve satiety when on a diet? Well, you’re not alone. In fact, Dr Layman and colleagues at the University of Illinois are also interested in helping you accomplish these goals.

In their recent studies, they have demonstrated a myriad of benefits associated with reducing the ratio of carbohydrate to protein in the diet from 3.5g of carbohydrate to every 1g of protein to 1.4g of carbohydrate to every 1g of protein. What does this mean in terms of food intake? Well, check out this handy little chart.

kcal/day Fat grams* Carbohydrate grams Protein grams

4500 kcal 150g 450g 338g

3500 kcal 117g 350g 263g

2500 kcal 83g 250g 188g

1500 kcal 50g 150g 113g

*These numbers assume a diet that contains 30% fat.

Tip #18 Protein/Carbs Before Exercise To Burn Fat?

by Dr. John Berardi

While nearly everyone nowadays knows that pre, during, and post exercise nutritional intake is critical for improving protein status and glycogen synthesis, most people fear that the ingestion of protein and carbohydrates during these times will decrease fat oxidation (burning).

Well, put simply, they’re wrong (sticking out tongue).

Studies have demonstrated that even in the presence of a relatively high carbohydrate intake (and large insulin response), the addition of protein to a carbohydrate meal can increase fat burning during exercise.

So it looks like a well-designed pre, during, and post exercise intake will not only improve protein status and glycogen resynthesis but it may actually increase fat burning. Bigger and leaner? Say it ain’t so.

Tip #19 How To Manage Your Macronutrients

by Dr. John Berardi

Are you more likely to be able to decipher ancient Greek texts than figure out how to construct a diet containing 30% protein, 50% carbohydrate, and 20% fat? Well then check out the following resources.

1- www.nal.usda.gov/fnic is the National Agriculture Library’s Food and Nutrition Information Center. Here you can find basic information on dietary supplements, an advanced food composition database, information about the food guide, and a listing of interesting resources about special needs, food allergies, etc.

2- www.nutritiondata.com is a fantastic resource and although it uses the food database above, may actually offer a better presentation of the food composition data. It doesn’t offer the other information, though.

3- www.fitday.com is another great food composition site that offers much more including online diet and fitness journals.

4- www.calorieking.com offers many of the same resources as fitday.com but has several excellent additional features such as an online ‘university’ (weekly education about the physiological and behavioral sides of nutrition). The extras cost money but are worth checking into.

If you’re looking for more great recipes that are yummy and healthy, you might want to take a look at these two great resources from Dr. Berardi:
