Hmm … I’ve got some more lippy goodness news coming your way. Imagine my delight when I heard that Clarins has created an Instant Gloss that transforms into my very own lip colour! I was ecstatic. As I’ve mentioned in my last review of MAC Cosmetics Creme Team Lipstick … I am a big fan of lip glosses.

What’s behind the concept?

Well it all depends on your very own lips and how it reacts to this product:

As a proud owner of one of the MAC Comestics Lustreglass series, Instant Gold to be exact, I definitely have my eye on MAC’s newest collection of lip glosses, the Cremesheen Lipglass line (come to me Partial Pink!). I have always been a loyal fan of the lip glosses that MAC offers and I have no doubt that Cremesheen will be just as great.

The latest lipstick formulation by the MAC team is supposed to be even moister than their previous line with promises of leaving a sheer finish. Wow! I feel so spoiled by the fall 2008 colour palettes.

I’ve been playing around with so many incredible shades that I absolutely love and up to now I’ve not been disappointed at all.

I’ve been wearing makeup for a while and I spend a lot of time looking and playing with makeup all the time so when I try a new shade and I’m taken aback by how incredible it looks … I like to share it!

I’m quite partial to purple and I’ve been wearing it for years because I find that the contrast of brown eyes and purple eye shadow is quite powerful.

Purple is THE colour for the new season, but most makeup companies have always had a number of purple shades in their standard collections. That said, this year, YSL (Yves Saint Laurent) Beauty has two new palettes that left me gasping for air.

When I finally came around to trying them … I was NOT disappointed.

If you are new to this site, then you might not know my long lasting relationship with YSL Beauty … I’ve been wearing the makeup line since I was 16 (old enough to start wearing makeup). In a sea of black containers, YSL Beauty has always and continues to stand out with their blingged-out gold packaging.

Indeed, a girl doesn’t buy makeup for the packaging alone, which is why YSL Beauty is so fantastic because the packaging is quite attractive, but the colours are rich and beautiful. Yup, they will set you back a little further in your beauty budget compared to other lines, but this is one of those little splurges that make you feel so girly.

YSL is not the only line that has really left me giddy, I have some favourites from NARS Cosmetics, MAC Cosmetics, Pop Beauty and Christian Dior Beaute.

5) NARS Cosmetics Isolde eye shadow duo: This is a duo of a lighter and darker copper shades that are so flattering. You can easily wear this from day to night and you both look would be equally smashing.

6) MAC Cosmetic Parfait Amour eyeshadow: This amethyst shade of purple left me gasping as well. You can mix it with any colour to create different looks!

7) POP Beauty Naughty Red: This is not a new shade of colour for POP Beauty, but I still enjoy wearing it. Red lips are still the rage for fall and Holiday 2008 and if you are not comfortable wearing more saturated shades of red, this is ideal because it’s so sheer … you get the colour without too much intensity!

#8) Christian Dior eyeshadow duo (#685): This coral and mocha brown duo are perfect for day wear. They are soft, but yet they have a quite presence that doesn’t go unnoticed.

My friend Krista gave me this nifty little jar of scrub for the lips. I thought it was the most precious little thing I had ever seen.

The product came in a small little chocolate brown box and the tag line immediately caught my attention: “wonder how you ever lived without it”.

Now, I know you must be thinking, why in the world is this woman listing so many publications in one post? It’s because I’ve never (NEVER) seen a product that has received so much international press before.

I know there are so many lipgloss options on the market, but I can assure you this new one from Yves Saint Laurent is WELL worth the try. I was quite impressed with this product and I try on so many different products each week that it’s getting harder to be dazzled. Some of the products are good, some are fair, but this YSL Touche Brillance is extraordinary!!!

The light and brilliance it gives to your lips is insane.

My personal favourites are #4 Sparkling Garnet and #15 Truly Red.  You’ll quickly notice a few things with this YSL Touche Brillance … the colour saturation is very heavy. That means that you will actually see the shade on your lips and it will last for a very long time. I’ve eaten with the YSL Touche Brillance and the colour was still on my lips!

You will also notice the “brilliance” effect because there is obviously something in the formulation that adds a touch of shimmer to the lips. Nah, I’m not talking about tacky sparkles, I’m talking about kicked-up sophistication for your lips ladies!

A few other things that I quite liked about the YSL Touche Brillance are the facts that it was NOT sticky and there was no strong scent to the product (since I’m allergic to a lot of smells … this is an important feature).

Yves Saint Laurent is the first line of makeup I bought as a teenager because their colours were sooooooo incredibly perfect for darker skin beauties like Iman (aka Mrs. David Bowie). I still wear Yves Saint Laurent, but in recent years (due to the call of duty), I’ve been wearing it here and there in combination with other brands I like.

I know that for some readers the price will be an issue. Yves Saint Laurent makeup in general is much more expensive that other brands. One of the factors is the packaging. YSL has ALWAYS had some of the most beautiful packaging in the industry … and someone has to pay for it. I know you don’t “wear” packaging, but when you combine the quality of the product and the YSL packaging … the price is a bit higher.

To the point of “not wearing packaging” … when I used to whip out a gold plated YSL lipstick or blush or eyeshadow … I used to feel so special. I know it’s only packaging, but there was something about the trademark gold plated YSL that brought that feeling out of you!

I’ve added below a few photos of my lips. The photos will not win any artistic prizes, but I wanted to shot a close enough photo so you could see the intensity of the colour. This might be a gloss, but it goes on and looks like a sheer lipstick (please keep in mind that my lower lip is discoloured in the centre of the lip).

Lipstick and lip gloss are all about the mood you’re in. Now, as a beauty editor you can imagine that I have skincare products and cosmetic products stashed all over my office, but I’m always excited to discover new products.

I recently discovered yet another lipstick. What is it with those Brits? They are simply taking over with all their quality skincare and cosmetic products.

If you hate drying lipstick (I’m raising my arm here), then you’ll L-O-V-E Lip Lust lipstick by Pop Beauty from the U.K. It’s just crossed to this side of the pound and when they say “a hydrating buttery-sheer lipstick with a semi-glow finish” … they mean it.

I tried Lip Lust’s “Naughty Red” and I simply loved it. I still have not made the transition to full coverage red lipstick, but I always welcome a sheer semi-gloss alternative and this is a good one.

My lips are always dry (regardless of the season). I live off of lip balm (without which I would be extremely cranky) even when I apply lipstick or lip gloss. Even with lip balm some lipsticks are far too drying for me. I was so pleased to discover that Lip Lust lipstick are incredibly moisturizing and hydrating.

Now if you want to take things further and prefer a more opaque finish to your lipstick, you can apply two layers of Lip Lust for a more lip popping effect. I personally like to keep it sheer.

I’ve found a new product from NARS that is absolutely wonderful – the NARS Velvet Matte lip pencil!

When I first saw the Velvet Matte lip pencil, I made the mistake of thinking it was a lip liner. I was a bit puzzled because I just could figure out how these colours would work as lip liners. When I tried it on my hand, I discovered how wrong I was.

The lip pencils should be used on the lips to increase the staying power of your lipstick. I’ve actually been using my favourite colour: “Dolce Vita” (a rich cherry red) as a lip stain and just finishing it up with a clear or very light colour gloss.

They work exceptionally well when you are looking for a more natural look or if you are going to a dinner party and you want some colour to remain on your lips once you’ve eaten and drank.

Here’s another thing to keep in mind, the “velvet” part of the name is more than a catchy marketing ploy. The NARS lip pencils have been created based on a non-drying formula with special emollients that leave your lips feeling moisturized and never dry.

You’ll find the NARS Velvet Matte lip pencil in the U.S. at any retailer that sells NARS Cosmetics or on NARS’ Web site. In Canada, you’ll find the NARS lip pencil at Holt Renfrew. The retail price for the NARS lip pencil is $24 USD/ $30 CDN.
