For fall 2008, we’re seeing the same tendency we’ve been seeing in the summer - bright red nails and some darker shades.
The new season will bring a number of different and sometimes opposite trends (think the dark black with whiter ruffle shirt versus the colourful country look).
For this new season, I don’t think you’ll be able to find one shade to compliment all of your different looks … you might want to have a few options handy (no pun intended).
Blue nail polish was a very strong trend for summer 2008, but the shade has been replaced with a deep purple shade.
The usual suspects (aka major nail polish brands) have put out their fall collections and you’ll notice that just like the opulence of big chunky jewelry, jumbo handbags and oversize cocktail ring, the nail polish colours for fall 2008 are very rich and decadent.
1) OPI MOD-ern Girl (pre-fall collection): OPI is still giving us very bright nail colours for the pre-fall season. The new collection comes in six shades that range from your classic red-coral (MOD-ern Girl) to bright fuchsia (That’s Hot! Pink). OPI has kept the blue nail polish for this collection and they’ve even continued the neon colours with their The “IT” Color (yellow) and Green-Wich Village (green apple).
2) OPI France Couture Couleur Collection (fall collection): I’m warning you … this collection is very (VERY) rich. If you don’t like bright colours and tend to gravitate towards darker shades … this collection has your name all over it! We’re talking about dark purples, chocolate browns and mauves. The name of the colours this season will leave you wanting to grab the next Air France flight to Paris for a weekend of café au lait and croissants - “Louvre me Louvre me not”, “Parlez-vous OPI?”, “Eiffel for this color” “We’ll always have Paris”, “Bastille my heart” … the names are always brilliant.
My personal favourites from that collection are “Louvre me Louvre me not”, “Bastille my heart” and Yes I can-can”.
3) Sephora by OPI: Sephora has teamed up with the nail polish giant for this new nail polish line exclusively created for Sephora. If you cannot find a shade of nail polish you like under this brand … you’ll NEVER find it! The Sephora by OPI collection counts 54 trend-setting shades from bright red … to sunny-yellow … to dark-rich shades. For fall 2008, you might consider the following shades:
* Meet for Drinks (purple)
* Run with it (beige-nude shade)
* Metro Chic (brownish-smokey shade)
* Don’t Go There (lighter purple than Meet for Drinks)
* Never Enough Shoes (black with multi-colour glitter)
* I’m with Brad (shimmering wine with brown undertones)
4) Essie Fall 2008 Nail Polish Collection: Essie is mixing things up for fall 2008 with combination of dark shades that are typical for this time of the year with some brighter and lighter colours that are usually associated with spring. The collection is really beautiful and you’ll be pressed to only keep it to one colour.
My favourite shade is “Lacy not Racy”, but the other colours are also incredible:
* Forever Young (tomato-red shade)
* Lacy Not Racy (deep-burgundy wine shade)
* Big Spender (non-shimmery-bright-violet)
* No Boundaries (dark plum shade)
* Swept Off My Feet (dusty-rose shade)
* Tomboy No More (deep-brownish-brick-red shade)
5) Deborah Lippmann’s Lippmann Collection Fall 2008 nail polish: Deborah Lippmann has created four new shades to compliment this season’s fashion trends. Deborah is always as the forefront of new trends and she’s offering something no other nail polish brand is offering - white nails!
The Fall 2008 Lippmann Collection is centred on four distinctive shades:
Pump Up the Jam: This is a shimmery of fall’s trendiest colour - purple. This is a very dark purple that will no doubt make a statement. This is also my personal favourite for the season.
Stop and Stare: This is a bright-vibrant red. This colour was named after the chart-topping hit by the group “One Republic” and it will certainly cause people to “stop and stare” at you perfect manicure.
Rhapsody in White: Think 1960s retro look for this fall shade. Now, I’m not saying this shade will work for everyone and there might be a number of women over 35 hesitating in choosing this one, but I found it to be an interested selection from Deborah Lippmann.
Fade to Black: This black shade made its debut on the Zac Posen Fall 2008 runway show. Fade to Black has a lot of shine and it’s more of a dark-sophisticated look as opposed to a rebel black look. The name of the polish was inspired by the Dire Straits song by the same name.
6) Zoya Fall 2008 Pulse and Vibe nail polish collection: Zoya is also featuring dark purple and dark red shades for fall 2008.
Vibe is all about luxury and you’ll find all of your reds and burgundy shades in this collection. Pulse is all about shimmer … and I LIKE shimmer!
If you want to know my favourites, I’d have to say that Sloane (a dark eggplant shade) stole it for me in the Pulse collection. In the Vibe collection, my favourite is Riley (a berry shade).
If you like red nail polish, you’ll find three red shades in the Vibe collection. Red is a safer choice and since there are so many great purple, chocolate and dark red shades this season, I’d strongly encourage you to explore a few other nail polish colour option.
One thing is certain, these two collections from Zoya for fall 2008 are quite perfect for women over 35 because you can find many sophisticated shades to compliment the fashion looks of the season.
As always, the Pulse and Vibe collections feature Zoya’s best-selling, professional, ultra long-wearing, natural nail lacquer formula (Zoya has recently been named as the longest lasting polish by Women’s Health magazine).
