Excessive sun exposure can lead to larger pores

That good old genetic coding is responsible (in most parts) for determining the size of your pores. There is not much you can do about changing your genetics. Age is another factor, because as we got older we loose skin elasticity which leads to larger pores. Acne suffers are also aware that blackheads will enlarge pores caused by accumulation of dirt, bacteria and oil within the pore.
Another contributing factor to enlarged pores that many of us might not be aware of is sun exposure. The sun is a wonderful and glorious gift from Mother Nature, but in large doses; the sun is very damaging. The reason why excessive sun exposure will increase the size of your pores over time is because the sun damages the collagen in your skin. The damage causes the pores to lose elasticity and therefore appear larger.
We are very fortunate to live in an era where medical science has found a number of cosmetic treatments that can help correct some of that damage. There is no doubt that avoiding (or seriously minimizing) direct exposure to the sun and sunscreen are key, but if you’ve been particularly naughty when it comes to your sun consumption, you might consider a number of medical spa treatments that can help you.
Norma Pasquale, cosmetic nurse at Pure Med Spa in Toronto suggested the following medical spa treatments to deal with enlarged pores caused by excessive sun exposure: “The best treatments are photofacials, alpha hydroxy peels and microdermasion. During those treatments, patients should avoid sun tanning and reduce their exposure to the sun because all these treatments exfoliate the skin and leave it particularly sensitive to further sun damage”.
