Djimon might be the best thing that has come out of Africa is a long time. From Thierry Mugler’s fashion shows in Paris to the big screens of Hollywood this Benin-born actor and model has shown that dark and handsome goes a long way.

Most North Americans became familiar with Djimon Hounsou (born in 1964) in Janet Jackson’s 1990 video “Love Will Never Do (Without You)”, since then we’ve seen him in a string of movies including one of my personal favourites: “Gladiator”!

Djimon Hounsou is the first black person born in Africa (it’s true that Charlize Theron did win an Oscar for her role in the movie “Monster” and she is born in Africa, but she’s not black!) to have been nominated for a Golden Globe Award (for his role in the 1997 Steven Spielberg film “Amistad”) and for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor for the 2004 movie “In America” and another one of my favourite movies: “Blood Diamonds” (2006).

At 44, Djimon has broken so many barriers for Africans and has shown that Africa is much more than a continent of war, famine, human suffering and disease (although Africa does suffer from the plague of these serious conditions).

Lately, we’ve had the pleasure of seeing Djimon retrieve one of his original roles as a model for Calvin Klein underwear. If you’ve not seen the ads yet, be prepared to be dazzled … not only does Djimon have an endless resource of talent, he’s also got a very chiseled and well-defined body.

Djimon Hounsou is my Celebrity Beauty Match Pick because he’s hot, talented and he’s a real treasure right out of Africa!
