The United States is #1 when it comes to cosmetic procedures

I would have said Brazil … for sure!

There is a little secret among many Latin people about how many pageant contestants from Spanish-speaking Caribbean Islands, Central and South America quickly go under the knife to be able to have the most perfect bodies and faces for the local and international beauty competitions. My friend Rafi (a native of Curacao) and I love to go on about it whenever Miss Venezuela competitions are presented on the telly.

If you look back, you’ll notice a fairly large number of Miss Universe winners from Spanish-speaking Caribbean Islands, Central or South America. It’s almost as if nine out 10 women from that part of the world was created from the same mole as Raquel Welch in her 20s … when the reality lies in the hand of a gifted plastic surgeon.

Most of these pre-pageant operations are performed in Brazil and Venezuela where they have some of the most talented cosmetic surgeons on the planet. If you have a chance to see before and after pictures, it’s surreal how dramatic some of these changes can be.

But a recent report by the International Society for Aesthetic Surgery reveals that when it comes to the number of cosmetic procedures being performed in one year, the U.S. is No.1.

Brazil only comes in seventh position, preceded quite surprisingly by France (5th place) and Germany (6th place). Mexico, Argentina and Spain took number 2, 3 and 4 on the list.

When it comes to being Canadian and going under knife … it seems that most of us prefer to be a little more conservative. Canada doesn’t even make it on the list of top 10 of countries where men and women don’t hesitate to go under knife to get what the Creator didn’t give them naturally.
