I first saw stylist Charla Krupps on a fashion segment in your 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s on Oprah. A few months ago she published a book with a title that is music to my ears: How not to look old!

If you missed my review of Oprah’s show you can catch it here:

Oprah’s team of celebrity stylists show you fashion in your 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s

Charla Krupps has been giving out style advice for many years and she has appeared on countless shows: The Oprah Winfrey Show, The View, Dateline NBC, and Good Morning America, and she’s been a regular on The E! Channel and the Home Shopping Network.

Charla has been the beauty director at Glamour, senior editor at InStyle, and beauty editor at People: Style Watch. With such a pedigree it made total sense for her to write a style guide to help women over 40 NOT look old.

The reality is that aging can be a scary process because we live in a world that rewards youth … not turning 50!

Past a certain age a lot of women might not feel like they have any sex appeal left and this is enough for a number of women to simply stop trying and give up on their looks and themselves.

Nothing could be further from the truth, if you put in some effort into the way you look and present yourself, it will make a world of difference in the way you see yourself and the way others see you.

I quite like the way Charla puts in her book: “Between you and me, girlfriend, aging sucks. But don’t worry; we can do something about it. There are smart, fast and easy ways that will make you look ten years younger, ten pounds lighter, ten times better! Whether you can spend whatever it takes-or only the least amount possible. Here are all your To-Dos, complete with a shopping list of all the products that really deliver results-and all the places to go to get gorgeous in a city near you. Let’s get started.”

I know I’m a bit late in featuring this book since it’s been out for a while, but for some reason, I stumbled upon it again this week and thought I should really feature it because some of my readers might not have yet heard of it.

Another thing I should mention before I end this: women 35-39 will find this book to be quite useful as well because a lot of the advice is geared towards women who are stuck in a bad style rut and might not know it.  For a lot of women who have young families, style, trends and fashion and taking care of themselves falls at the bottom of the list … Charla’s Krupp’s book is a book reminder that taking care to look your best (and feeling your best) is as important as taking care of your family.

I agree with a lot of things Charla says, but we definitely don’t see eye to eye when it comes to body shapers. I know that body shapers like Spanx are very popular (it’s a multi-million dollar business) in giving the illusion of a slimmer body, but I personally thing that a healthier body weight will go a longer way in boosting self-esteem in and out of clothing.

Another thing that has always intrigued me with those body shapers was what happens if you wear a body shaper, meet a guy, get along famously with him and then after a while decide to get a bit more intimate with him. What happens when you remove the body shaper and your body no longer looks the same as it did when you were wearing clothes?
