Beverly Johnson broke several stereotypes by becoming the second black woman to grace the cover of Vogue magazine in August 1974. She’s considered to be one of the first supermodels and one of the first commercially accepted black models.
Beverly’s beauty seems to have remained untouched. Today, she may no longer be breaking stereotypes or showcasing the latest fashions on a catwalk but she’s still very active in the beauty industry. Beverly runs her own wig and hair extension company.
At 55 (born in 1952), Beverly could easily pass as a woman 20 years her junior. She’s still as ravishingly beautiful today as she was in her model days. Most recently, she was honoured by Oprah Winfrey at her “Legends Ball”.
Beverly Johnson is my Celebrity Beauty Match Pick because she was one of the most important figures that broke the mould and sent a clear message to the world: Black is beautiful…and she’s still proof of that statement today!
