Adult acne is affecting more and more women in their mid 30s

You might have been lucky enough to escape the trauma of teenage acne just to wake up as an adult and discover that those blemishes on your face are becoming a recurring problem. Yes, you’ve got adult acne! This problem is afflicting more and more adult women. Adult acne can start in your mid twenties and last until your fifties. For some of us, acne has simply been part of life since our early teens and remains a problem in our mid to late thirties (and beyond).
So how does adult acne differ from teenage acne? During your teenage years, your acne was most likely limited to your t-zone area – across your forehead, down your nose, on your chin. As an adult, you’ll quickly learn that acne doesn’t discriminate; you’ll most likely get break outs on your back, shoulders, chest, neck, jawline, temples and even eyebrows.
Hormones are one of the most important causes of adult acne, especially androgens, which can send your sebum secretion into overdrive.
One of the biggest mistakes we make in dealing with adult acne is applying topical products that tend to dry our skin and eliminate too much natural oils. This will not only result in tightness that is uncomfortable, in the long run it can also lead to pre-mature wrinkles.
The bottom line is that you cannot treat adult acne like you used to treat your teenage acne.
Alas, acne cannot be cured (trust me…I know too well), it can only be controlled with proper skin care.
