About Krizia – aka Miss K.
– I’m a girl on an aging-well journey!
The concept of aging well is not new to Krizia who has followed a strict exercise regime for more than a decade. A contract with a natural health company in the late 1990s offered Krizia an incredible life-changing opportunity to be exposed to the power of detoxification, as not only a means of cleansing the system, but also as an effective method of cell-rejuvenation.
Although Krizia has been a devotee of aging prevention since the age of 17, she discovered the power of anti-aging cosmeceutical serums, gels and treatments quite by accident. A simple package purchased a few years ago at a Yorkville (Toronto) medical spa for laser hair removal and the severe topical burn that followed the first laser treatment, forced Krizia to return to the spa for numerous curative treatments. Each follow-up treatment and each discussion with cosmetic nurses (and hours of research) led the way to a full-fledged fascination with pharmaceutically graded anti-aging products, skin resurfacing treatments, anti-aging products and the endless possibilities of preserving a youthful appearance as we age.
In recent years, Krizia has turned to meditation as a way to manage stress.
As a GenXer, Krizia is looking for ways of delaying if not bypassing more invasive surgeries while still feeling and looking as young as possible. Truth be told, Krizia will do just about anything to avoid painful procedures (and still today will ask her dentist if the sting from the syringe will hurt — as if 30+ years at the dentist would not answer that question). This strong desire to avoid pain at every cost has forced Miss K to look further than rejuvenation injections and plastic surgery in her aging-well quest and journey.
Ten things you may not know about Krizia:
- I cannot wake up without an alarm clock and I need to press the snooze button at least 3 times before extracting myself from my bed.
- I’m addicted to President’s Choice® “Just Peanuts” Old-Fashioned Peanut butter with no added sugar, salt or hydrogenated fat. I simply love it!
- I speak three languages and because of that I sometimes invent my own words and sentence structures (just ask my editors).
- I’ve edited and published a critically acclaimed lifestyle guide that sold in Canada, France, the USA, Germany and the U.K.
- I’ve being following the “French culinary lifestyle aka French diet” since I began dating my ex-Parisian husband in the 1990s – the man never ate preserved or fast food.
- I started to take exercising seriously in the mid-90s because an ex-colleague (Mark who was in his 40s) and a former boss (Chris who was in his late 30s) had explained how much of a huge difference a sustained exercise regime made as they went from their 20s to their 30s and their early 30s to their mid-30s (and beyond). I still remember Mark saying the best thing I could do was to join a gym over the weekend and keep at it. And if I didn’t like the gym to find an exercise I enjoyed and be strict with it. I’m happy I didn’t second guess that advice.
- I too had the “Sharon Stone” epiphany – when I turned 36 I looked at myself and said…if this is aging…bring it on! Reportedly, Sharon Stone looked at herself on her 36th birthday and said: “If this is aging, then it’s not that bad” because she liked what she saw in the mirror. Even though Sharon Stone is approaching her 50s, very few of us would oppose looking that phenomenally beautiful at that age.
- A Parisian-based friend introduced me to the discipline of daily body exfoliation by using a hard exfoliation mitt in my early 20s. The first month of daily body exfoliation was almost painful, but I kept at it and more than a decade and a half later I can say that I have little cellulite, few stretch marks from my overweight teen years and some sort of control over my adult acne scars and uneven skin texture.
- What I love the most about the anti-aging industry is that women and men over 35 have total control over how old they want to look.
- A Latina friend of mine shared a friend-of-the family’s ultimate anti-aging secret – aloe vera gel…I was maybe 20 at the time and since then I won’t be caught dead without a bottle of pure organic aloe vera gel.
- Not a day goes by without my having to spell out my name and explain its origin. So here we go: Krizia is a diminutive of Lucretia/Lucrezia which is one of the oldest Italian names, dating back to the 5th century BC. The easiest way to remember the pronunciation of my name is to think of a popular Italian delight: pizza (I’ll have to thank my Californian friend Susanne for this brilliant word association). If you think of pizza and add “K and R” and remove the “P”, then you’ve got the almost-perfect pronunciation. If this is all too complicated, I really don’t mind if you call me Miss K!
Krizia is also beauty editor or beauty contributor for the following publications:

About Mary
– It was only when Mary hit her mid-20s that she realized her skin was no longer as supple nor elastic as it used to be. Mary confesses to sleeping without washing off her makeup for days at a time in her twenties (bad girl), but recognizes that her no-routine habit didn’t cut it as she aged. These days, this GenXer religiously follows a skin-care regimen…and it shows.
Mary is a self-confessed beauty product addict! She’s all about the smell, the packaging, the look, but in the end when a product doesn’t work, she won’t give it a second thought and will simply toss it out with the trash.
And although Mary believes in working hard to staying beautiful, she’s not averse to some help along the way. In fact, Mary decided to get braces as an adult to feel completely comfortable with her looks. Braces are not the most pleasant experience (at any age), but the short-term pain was well worth it in the end for Mary.
Ultimately, that’s what beauty is all about – feeling good from the inside!
Ten things you may not know about Mary:
- I can’t keep my weight down unless I exercise regularly, drink lots of water, eat lots of fibre, and cut out gratuitous carbs. Trust me, there is no other way.
- My beauty secret is simple: plenty of water, even more sleep, and copious amounts of moisturizer. Not to be forgotten, the secret that’s been passed down through my maternal line: Consuming lots of yogurt. It hasn’t been scientifically proven, as far as I know, but both my mother and grandmother are the proud owners of youthful skin!
- I can quote from the films “Strictly Ballroom” and “Bridget Jones’s Diary” to fit any situation. When I lived in London , UK , I used to walk past sites in the city that appeared in Bridget Jones’s while playing her soundtrack on my Discman. Obsessive? Just a little.
- A Scientology rep once tried to recruit me in Frankfurt when I was 19. It didn’t work. Shame. I could’ve been hanging out with the likes of Tom Cruise and John Travolta.
- I have ridden a bike twice in my life. The second time lasted all of 87 seconds.
- I am the best speller I know.
- I am a Beatles-person, cat-person, Mr. Big-person. In case you were wondering, for I believe you probably were.
- I have a thousand cavities. Okay, maybe 6, but I’ve lost count. This is because I cannot live without chocolate, croissants, and cake. In that order.
- The best meal I ever had was in Paris. Glazed duck on a bed of polenta. Tarte tatin, wine, and escargots. Clichéd, perfect, wonderful. I vaguely remember running to the pay phone outside the restaurant to call my then-boyfriend, now-fiancé to tell him we must move to France immediately.
- In my spare time, I indulge with books by Ian McEwan, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Bill Bryson, and Joanne Harris; hunt down first-edition copies of Roald Dahl books, cook a mean goat cheese quiche, and play Brahms on the piano.
- My favourite time-killer is surfing celebrity gossip sites for the latest scoop on Hollywood’s who’s who.
Why did Mary pick this photo? Yonka’s Gommage is my fave product! It’s like microdermabrasion in a tube … whenever my skin feels blotchy or dull, I only have to use it and I am rejuvenated.
About Gisele B.
Gisele has been a huge Europhile since her first trip to Europe at the age of 15. At that young age, Gisele started following European beauty and fashion trends and this passion has not slowed down with time.
When it comes to keeping abreast of beauty trends, Gisele never gets tired of reading magazines and web sites that tackle beauty, fashion, health and fitness issues
When it comes to looking and feeling your best after 35, Gisele believes that it’s all about lifestyle choices.
Here are some of Gisele’s aging-well secrets: fitness, dancing to her favourite music, laughter, friends, good food and good wine, organic Aloes Vera gel before applying her moisturiser, facials, Greens+ and Omega 3.
Gisele also finds that reading a good book to be the best way to “get away” for a few minutes.
Ten Things you might not know about Gisele
- I think “cheese” should be a separate food group from dairy products.
- I think low fat cheese is a crime against humanity and against France.
- Although I’m a health nut, I LOVE hot Italian pancetta (Italian type of bacon).
- I won’t wear a new pair of shoes until I’ve had the chance to admire them on my dresser for at least 48 hours.
- I make a point to wear little or no black clothing during the summer.
- My least favourite colour is green. When given the choice (even when I’m not given a choice) I always turn down anything green.
- I use my blender more times in one week to make smoothies than most people use theirs in one year.
- I cannot eat radishes because I simply cannot digest them.
- Although I love Asian cuisine, I still cannot eat with chopsticks and I always ask for a fork.
- I really don’t enjoy comedic gigs, slapstick comedy or late night comic shows, but Chelsea Handler (Chelsea Lately) is the only late night comic show I’ve ever been able to watch with enjoyment and she’s the only comic that actually makes me laugh.
Why did Gisele pick this photo? That’s not my eye, but I think mascara makes you look made up even if you’re not wearing much more. I also quite like this photo by Marshall Flickman.
Meet the rest of the team!
About Lisa – aka the graphic designer
A rich and beautiful Italian heritage has certainly contributed to this GenXer’s approach to opting for “real food” as opposed to “fast food”. Like many ex-Montrealers who grew up surrounded by great food and great cafés, Lisa never hesitates to travel outside her neighbourhood for the perfect meal or the perfect cup of coffee. Lisa’s passion for fashion, the arts and beauty transcends everything she does.
Here are some of Lisa’s aging-well secrets: she leaves the worries of Toronto behind and hops on a plane in search of stress-free adventures every chance she has; she takes great care in maintaining her flawless olive complexion; she adopts a Euro-approach to exercising by walking instead of driving; she hits the gym for a more intense workout on a regular basis to keep fit and feeling strong; and she believes that proper skincare should start at an early age.

A few frequently asked questions:
Are we professionally trained?
No, we’re not. We hold multiple university degrees and are very educated in our fields. As editors we are trained “investigators” and our mission is to search high and low to find the best new advancements in the anti-aging industry. We do spend a lot of time researching, testing and asking the right questions. We are professionals at finding “the” professionals with the answers to your questions. We are NOT plastic surgeons, cosmetic dermatologists, medical doctors, naturopathic doctors, personal trainers or cosmetic nurses.
The information we provide you is just the beginning of your journey. You should ALWAYS consult with your aesthetician, cosmetic dermatologist, medical doctor, plastic surgeon, naturopathic doctor, personal trainer or cosmetic nurse to find out if the suggestions we present to you are the right beauty matches for your anti-aging needs.
We all have different anti-aging needs and a trained professional is your best resource when it comes to making any kind of final decision about the best anti-aging products, medical treatment or solutions for you.
Should I follow your recommendations if I’m pregnant or thinking of getting pregnant? As we’ve said in the last answer, we are simply bringing to your attention great products available on the market that you might have missed. If you are pregnant, you should ALWAYS consult your obstetrician, aesthetician, cosmetic dermatologist, medical doctor, plastic surgeon or cosmetic nurse. They know your medical history and they are the ones who can help you make safe choices for you and your soon-to-be-born baby.
Do you get paid to talk about the products that are featured on the site? That would be great, but we don’t. We do our research and find the latest and the greatest products dealing with aging well and we share them with you.
