Nanotechnology is the branch of science that deals with the manipulation of atoms and molecules with dimensions of less than 100 nanometres (that’s about 800 times smaller than the diameter of your hair). It might be the latest buzz in the world of cosmetic rejuvenation and anti-aging skincare, but it’s been around for many years now. It’s only recently that certain skincare companies are now including these facts as part of their marketing material.
Simply put, nanotechnology gets ingredients deeper into the skin (or hair). At present there are studies that suggest that solid lipid nanoparticles penetrate the skin better than conventional creams or serums, but the jury is still out as to the level of effectiveness of this deep penetration.

My interview with the women from Three Takes

3takes_group-shot.jpg
There’s nothing quite like having a group of women sitting in front of a cup of coffee talking about life.

I was happy to be able to sit down with three women (Andrea Bain, Christine Diakos, and Jack (Jacqueline) Hourigan) who are in front of the camera of a regular base to understand how the viewed getting older in front of an entire country and also discuss how conscience they are about the image they project on the small screen.

The Skinny on the Meal Frequency Studies – part 2

I believe that Dr. Mattson knows the limitations of these studies and how misleading the conclusions may seem to be. In an article in the medical journal Lancet 2005, Dr. Mattson indicated that humans indeed are inherently programmed (all through the evolutionary process) to better survive on one main meal per day. With references to The Warrior Diet, Dr. Mattson presented the adverse consequences of overfeeding via frequent feeding. Other scientists worldwide have also been realizing that the human body is not programmed for frequent feeding.

Forced feeding, fixed calories, false indications

Recent studies on the impact of meal frequency on middle aged men and women raise serious questions to their relevant real life conditions. Dr. Mark Mattson and myself have been corresponding regarding the benefits of the one main meal per day approach, and about a year ago he shared with me over the phone some information regarding the studies of which results were published recently. To avoid falsely driven conclusions, lets examine the facts behind these studies and clarify some key points:

I recently tried the Platinum Soothing Mask by Tu’el (Tu’el is a brand created by Eva’s Esthetics). I wanted to try it because I had heard that it helped calm redness and Platinum Soothing Mask by Tu’el inflammation.

One of the major issues with adult acne is the inflammation and redness that are caused by blocked pores and I wanted to see if this mask would help deal with this problem.

Should you consider microdermabrasion?

iStock_lymphatic_facial.jpg

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive and non-aggressive resurfacing treatment that has been used in Europe for many years and that’s becoming more and more popular in North America. Some of the reasons that explain this surge in popularity include the fact that microdermabrasion takes much less time to administrate than other more invasive procedures. Another reason is the fact that there is no recovery period, no discomfort and you can resume normal activities immediately (as I said in my previous post, I had dinner plans one hour after my sea salt microdermabrasion and no one could tell … other than the fact that I was not wearing any makeup).

Fearless Women: Midlife Portraits – Celebrating women in their 40s, 50s and 60’s!

fearless_women_midle_age_portraits.jpg
I have recently found a really great book that celebrates women as they age. I was running through my local bookstore when I was stopped in my tracks by the black and white image of a sexy woman branding a sword over her head.

I immediately picked up the book and started flipping through the pages. I knew I would not have time to read the book before actually featuring it, but it seemed to be such an inspirational book that I thought I MUST highlighted.
