Don’t be fooled by expensive caviar extract products

La_Prairie_Caviar_extract.jpg
La Prairie Cosmetics from Switzerland has made a fortune selling caviar extract products to their clients willing to dish out $300, $500 and $900 for skin care products.

I’ll be honest and I’ll admit that as a beauty editor I’ve not yet pulled out my credit card to purchase skin care that expensive. I also think that caviar might be best left as a delicacy.

It surely looks like Angelina Jolie and I don’t see eye to eye on that front. The London Daily News has reported late last week that Mrs. Brad Pitt has been indulging in a £200-a-time treatment (a little shy of $450 US) extracted from the eggs of Baerii sturgeon, located on farms in the South of France. It would appear that Angelina Jolie finds the three-hour caviar treatment essential in keeping her newly-super-skinny-body super-firm. The caviar treatment is said to “drench the skin with moisture and nourishment and combat loss of firmness and slackened skin”.

Should you try a lip plumper?

lip_injections_lip_enhancement.jpg
When I recently tried MAC Cosmetics new collection of lip glosses and discovered it was yet another lip plumper, I knew that this lip plumper thing was here to stay a little longer.

It would certainly appear that most women are looking for fuller and bigger lips.

During a conversation with a Beauté Cosmetics representative, I told him how surprised I was that so many cosmetics companies were focusing on lip plumpers. He responded by saying: You can never have too much lip!

Swiss-German skin care line wins the 2007 ‘European Cosmetics Innovation Prize’

Cell Culture Face Care serum
When I hear of a product that has just won the 2007 ‘European Cosmetics Innovation Prize (or any other type of prize/award), I immediately make a mental note because that’s a product I need to know more about.

When enough consumers or experts all agree that a specific product stands head and shoulders above the rest to actually merit an award, there are good chances, this is the type of product that might be well worth trying.

Cell Culture Face Care is a serum developed in Switzerland by a German skin care company by the name of SBT Skin Biology Therapy that won 2007 ‘European Cosmetics Innovation Prize.

When your hair colour appointment doesn’t work with your medical spa appointment

hair_care_cosmetic_treatments.jpg
Are you getting your hair coloured the same week you’re getting chemical peel treatment?

You might think that you lucked out in getting both appointments in the same week, but once you read this post you’ll be speed-dialling someone on your beauty glam team to switch your appointments around.

Cosmetic dermatologists and plastic surgeons recommend that skin care rejuvenation treatments like microdermabrasions and chemical peels (basically, anything that will affect the upper layers of skin) should not be performed within five to ten days of any hair colouring treatment, perms, relaxers or soft curls (for darker-skin beauties).

Could your next cocktail be filled with anti-oxidants?

cocktail_anti-oxidants.jpg
Now before you grab your handbag and head out to your nearest bar or lounge, you might want to read further.

A recent report in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture concludes that vodka, rum or any spirit containing ethanol (best known as the alcohol found in alcoholic beverages) can increase the anti-oxidant power and free-radical defense in colourful fruits, like berries.

It’s a well-known fact that anti-oxidants attack cell-damaging free-radicals in our bodies. Unless you live on the top of a mountain or in the country, you cannot really control your exposure to free-radicals because they simply are (unfortunately) part of our everyday lives.
